My story

[p]FOLLOW MY TRAINING PROGRESS - Instagram - @willjc11. Strava - Will Coetzer[/p][p]I have never run a full marathon. I never thought I'd run one, but then I also never thought I'd have a son on the autistic spectrum. Over the last few years, I've been trying to learn parenting in a different way. I've learned about myself, my strengths, my glaring weaknesses, and also about how little most of us know about autism, despite it affecting an estimated 1/59 people. [/p][p]Seeing my son grow up (turning 5 in March), and the challenges he faces on a daily basis, I also marvel at his potential and resilience (from our "neurotypical" perspective). I do wonder though, how people less fortunate than us deal with autism - those that can not afford any speech or occupational therapy, specialised schooling, general support structures, etc. - the foundational tools that, when applied as early as possible, contribute exponentially to helping many people on the autism spectrum develop into independent adults.[/p][p]My goal is to help raise autism awareness, with the vision to help move society to full inclusion of autistic people, and people of all disability really. Awareness is the first step towards change.[/p][p]Be part of an incredible once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: It's the 40th London Marathon, I'm turning 40, raising £40,000, so it seems only logical to also revise my running target from 4.15/km (breaking 3 hours) to 4.0 per km (2.48). I'm gunning to be the Nr 1 fundraiser for London Marathon 2020 (45k people!) - I'm already in the top 10, including teams!! See real-time link here: [/p][p]https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/giving/fundraising/marathon-leaderboard[/p][p]Broadly, this entails:[/p][p]Ridiculously early mornings and late evenings![/p][p]Building up weekly running distances towards 100km+ per week.[/p][p]LOTS of sore muscles, chafing and blisters... [/p][p]Healthy eating, more sleeping and less (no) drinking!...harder than it sounds.[/p][p]Please donate generously to this cause. Thank you.[/p]
