My story

[p]Hello and thank you for visiting my page. If you know me you'll know that I am not a cyclist, nor am I the type to do much excercise at all to be honest, but I am serious and determined to conquer this massive bike ride for this incredible cause. Food waste is unconscionable while the environment is under such huge stress and the reality of thousands of hungry people in this wealthy country is unforgivable when so much is being wasted every day. The Felix Project is working towards reducing waste, and giving it to those who desperately need it. It is such a simple and beautiful solution, I urge you to support it all you can.[/p][p]This June, 60 of us will take on our biggest challenge yet, cycling over 500km from Zagreb to Split on the Quintessentially Foundation Bike Ride in aid of the Felix Project. We aim to raise over £400k through this event.[/p][p]The Chairman of The Evening Standard, Justin Byam Shaw, founded the Felix Project in memory of his son, Felix, who died suddenly from Meningococcal Septicaemia in 2014. Felix was full of compassion for those who didn’t have the same advantages as him in life. Justin clearly remembers an incident at a boys’ football tournament, when Felix had been very upset to discover that almost none of the opposing team of 10-year-old boys from South London hadn’t had anything to eat that day.[/p][p]The Felix Project collects surplus food from suppliers and gives it to charities and schools, free of charge. Each week, a small team of staff and over 400 volunteers save almost 30 tonnes of food for around 50,000 people to have good nutritious meals. Every £1 donated to The Felix Project will save £5 of food. It’s a wonderfully simple model that goes some way to address the twin scandal of food waste and food poverty.[/p][p]The funds raised through the bike ride will support the work of The Felix Project who are fighting food poverty and food waste across London.
