My story

[p]I will be running the London Marathon this year to raise money for a cause that means a lot to me, Retina UK.[/p][p]For those that don't know, this amazing charity does incredible work to research and support people with inherited sight-loss. My Dad was born with a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa and has unfortunately experienced a deterioration in his sight throughout his life, to the point that he is now blind. [/p][p]This year I was very sad to discover that my smart and loving 2-year -old nephew, Arthur, had also inherited the faulty gene that has caused Dad's eyesight deterioration. This challenge is for him.[/p][p]Thanks to the wonderful work of charities such as Retina UK, research is really progressing and there's a great amount of hope for Arthur that with the right treatment, he might not go blind like my dad. [/p][p]Of course, Retinitis Pigmentosa is just one of many inherited conditions that can cause sight-loss, and that's why their work is as important now as it has ever been.[/p][p]The London Marathon is a gruelling 26.2 mile course through the streets of our capital. I last ran it in 2014, and was woefully underprepared for what was ahead. I made it around, but not in any kind of time to boast about. This year, I've been training hard and am aiming to run in under four hours.[/p][p]As well as the marathon, I'll be taking part in a number of other running events, including the Snetterton 10k (which I completed last month) and the Kings Lynn 10k which I'll be running in August. Watch this space for other events![/p][p]I've set my target at £2,500, but would love to think I can raise even more. So no matter how much or how little you think you can contribute, let me tell you, it will be a massive help.[/p]
