My story

[p]Thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us on our 30 mile Wye Valley Challenge on 11th August 2018. [/p][p]We, The Wobbly Walkers, are the husband and son of a lady with Parkinson’s Disease. This is a degenerative neurological disease which affects movement and causes other issues such as tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement. tiredness, pain, depression and constipation, which has a huge impact on the day-to-day lives of those suffering from it.[/p][p]People with Parkinson's don't have enough of a chemical called dopamine because some nerve cells in their brain have died. Without dopamine people can find that their movements become slower so it takes longer to do things. The loss of nerve cells in the brain causes the symptoms of Parkinson's to appear.[/p][p]There's currently no cure for Parkinson's and we don't yet know why people get the condition.[/p][p]We want to raise money for The Cure Parkinson's Trust to help it boost research into this horrible disease in order to speed up the discovery of a cure. Last year we undertook the Cotswold Way Challenge and raised nearly £2000; we want to beat that this year!![/p][p]Currently our wife/mother is on the lowest dose of drugs to control her symptoms but this will increase over time and we hope that some form of cure will be found before the drugs no longer are able to mitigate the symptoms.[/p][p]Taking exercise is vital to sufferers of Parkinson's. She loves walking and has completed the 1000 mile Camino de Santiago de Compostela, the Coast to Coast, the South Downs Way and other long treks. Whilst she continues to walk and explore Exmoor she is unable to join us on this challenge. Instead she is acting as our back-up crew![/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
