My story

[p]Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2020 London legal sponsored walk. We're taking on 10K for justice on the 8th June. [/p][p]Our team is: Georgina Uwaoma, Renata Wardle (with more to follow) [/p][p]We are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers to raise funds for Youth Legal to enable us to continue giving free specialist legal advice in homelessness, community care and debt and money advice to young people and families with children, focussing on those with disabilities, care leavers and young carers.[/p][p]As you may be aware, with all the cuts to access to justice, it is very difficult for people in need to get specialist legal advice. It is also impossible for us to survive only on Legal Aid funding and grants which are so difficult to obtain now and which is why it is so important we get donations from caring people like you to help keep giving the much needed legal advice. To find out more about the work we do, please visit our website at www.youthlegal.org.uk.[/p][p]By supporting us you will be supporting young people and children to get through difficult times, such as lifting them out of homelessness and destitution. You will help them fight for their social welfare legal rights to support in housing and community care.[/p][p]For instance, last year’s donation went towards obtaining complaint settlements of £5000 each for two young men both badly treated by Children’s Services when they were under 18. We have prevented many destitute children and their families from being street homeless (9 month pregnant mother of 3 children sleeping in a train station) and given telephone advice to over 100 people on their legal rights when homeless amongst other issues. That’s what we do and without our (your) help the young people and children we assist could also end up on the streets?[/p][p]As with most charities now, Youth Legal desperately needs the money to continue giving free specialist legal advice to young people and families with children, focussing on those with disabilities, care leavers and young carers. We also want to continue giving free telephone advice for 2nd tier advisors and the public, providing public legal education training and hold our yearly Young People's Legal Rights Conference.[/p][p]Our target is £1,500 and it would be fantastic to surpass that, but any amount would be very welcome and appreciated. It would be great too if you would ask your friends, family and colleagues who might also be interested in supporting our work to donate too.[/p][p]Please support our walkers as generously as you are able. Thank you if you do and for thinking about it and we understand if you can’t as times are difficult for a lot of us.[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donation[/p]
