My story

[p]Clare and I entered the Royal Parks Half marathon back at the end of 2019, we were due to race last October which was cancelled, and we are now doing the virtual event this April and raising money for the dyslexic charity Helen Arkell to help others and raise awareness. Until having a child diagnosed with dyslexia you have no idea of the struggles they face. Even though I knew my son Josh was intelligent, we were always told he was just struggling. It wasn't until year 4 when he got a teacher who saw straight away that he knew all the answers, but just couldn't put this onto paper, that we decided to go private to get a diagnosis. After this diagnosis, I realised the little support that was available, and the lack of knowledge within schools, so I spent uncountable hours researching and trying to give him all the support I could at home to help him to thrive in the classroom. With the right support in place dyslexic children/adults can achieve anything they set their sights on, as other dyslexics such as Richard Branson, Albert Einstein and Keira Knightley (to name a few) have proved. Josh now wants to be a Marine Biologist and even though its a fight to get the support he needs in school, I have no doubt that he will achieve his dream. My running buddy Clare has seen the struggles, the tears, anxiety and processes we have had to go through to get help, and being a supportive friend she has also decided to help raise awareness to help these children to get the support they need, and is raising the money with me for Helen Arkell. [/p]
