My story

[p]This year I have been lucky enough to win the Seaford Striders only London Marathon place. If you run marathons you will know that running the London Marathon is a big thing and its very hard to get in. Having been already rejected again this year I felt very privileged to have this opportunity. [/p][p]After taking a break from fundraising for the last 2 years I have decided to use this opportunity to raise money for 2 great charities doing wonderful work for both my local community and afar. [/p][p]The BSUH charity support the hospital that I have spent the last 20 years working it. They help support both staff and [patients throughout the hospital and I have been lucky enough to benefit from their support over the years. They do this through creating more patient friendly environments Providing state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment Supporting staff development to provide even better care Advancing understanding through innovative research projects.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The Martin Fisher Foundation was founded in 2015 to take forward the work of Professor Martin Fisher. We continue to promote Martin’s ethos of treating people living with HIV with dignity, compassion and respect, and are developing new strategies for effective HIV prevention, treatment and care. I worked with Professor Martin Fisher for over 12 years and it is an hnour to support the work he started with many others. [/p][p]Working TOWARDS ZERO HIV[/p][p]We are working together towards ZERO new HIV infections, ZERO HIV-related deaths, and ZERO HIV stigma in Brighton & Hove. We have a unique opportunity to eliminate new HIV cases within the next generation. We know around 1:10 people with HIV are unaware of their infection and may be unknowingly passing on the infection to others. [/p][p]Having lost so many people I know and love through HIV related diseases both back home in South Africa and here it makes sense to support any work that is looking in to eliminating new infections. [/p][p]For more information on both Charities please click on the links on this page. [/p][p]Because I've fundraised a lot of times before I decided to make this challenge bigger and do something crazy that scares me a little. London Marathon will not be only marathon I am doing. [/p][p] I will be doing 6 other Marathons around this time making it Seven marathons in 2 and half months. The first one on the 15th of March and the final on the 31st of May. [/p][p]On average I would normally run 1 or 2 marathons a year so this is a huge challenge. I started training back at beginning of December and its going well so far. The first marathon is getting closer and closer which is a bit scary but also exciting. [/p][p]Your support will not only motivate me as I enter that hardest part of the training with long runs getting a longer and the fatigue setting in but also go a long way to support the charities to keep on doing the hard good work.[/p][p]So please dig deep and give what you can. [/p][p]Thank you so much for taking time to visit this page. [/p]
