Team story

[lt]h3[gt]Supporting ‘The Bobby Robson Foundation’ and ‘Maggies Cancer Centre’, Newcastle[lt]/h3[gt][lt]h3[gt]25th August to 3rd September 2017[lt]/h3[gt][p]This summer we will see Darren Purvis and Luke Westoe complete ‘The Andrew Grounsell Challenge’, held in memory of Andrew Grounsell, our friend, colleague, husband to Jo and father to Amy and Henry. [/p][p]Andrew had fought bowel cancer for over two years, but sadly lost his fight to this awful disease in October 2016, at the young age of 54.  Andrew was amazing in the way he dealt with his illness and how he continued to carry on with life as normal, continuing to work and push himself right up until the end.  In his memory Darren and Luke propose to push themselves to the limit with the gruelling physical course of the AG Challenge. [/p][p]The challenge will see Darren and Luke cycle over 1000 miles ascending over 45,000ft, and climb the UK’s highest 3 Peaks of Snowdon, Scarfell Pike and Ben Nevis on foot ascending a further combined 10,000ft over the 3 peaks. [/p][p] [/p][lt]h3[gt]THE COURSE[lt]/h3[gt][ul][li]START – Newcastle[/li][li]2.5 day cycle south, taking us from England in to Wales.[/li][li]Climb Snowdon (Peak 1).[/li][li]1.5 day cycle north out of Wales, in to England.[/li][li]Climb ‘Scarfell Pike’ in the Lake District (Peak 2).[/li][li]2 day cycle north from England in to Scotland.[/li][li]Climb ‘Ben Nevis’ (Peak 3).[/li][li]1 day cycle east to Edinburgh.  [/li][li]1 day cycle south from Edinburgh via Bamburgh and back to Newcastle.  [/li][/ul][p]Anyone wishing to cycle a section/ join us for a day of the route or wishing to climb a peak is more than welcome to join us.[/p][p] [/p][lt]h3[gt]SPONSORSHIP[lt]/h3[gt][p]Your support is appreciated no matter how small or big, as all donations will go towards helping raise funds for our two chosen charities; The Bobby Robson Foundation and Maggies Centre. [/p][p] [/p][lt]h3[gt]CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP[lt]/h3[gt][p]We would encourage companies in supporting the Andrew Groundsell Challenge and in return we would look to place their company logo on to the support vehicle and use social media to spread the word of those supporting us. [/p][p]Companies or individuals can sponsor a ‘Day’ of the event and for more information please contact us at ag.challenge@spacegroup.co.uk or tel. 0191 223 6600 and ask for Darren or Luke.[/p][p]DAY 1     Newcastle to Kettlewell (Yorkshire Dales) (75 miles) [/p][p]DAY 2     Kettlewell to Ruthin (Wales) (119 miles) [/p][p]DAY 3     43 mile ride from Ruthin to the base of Snowdon Welsh climb of Snowdon [/p][p]DAY 4     Llanberis to Lancaster (138 miles) [/p][p]DAY 5     61 mile ride from Lancaster to Seathwaite English climb of Scarfell Pike [/p][p]DAY 6     Seathwaite to Hamilton (125miles) [/p][p]DAY 7     Hamilton to Fort William (119 miles)  [/p][p]DAY 8     Scottish climb of Ben Nevis then cycle Fort William to Tyndrum (49 miles) [/p][p]DAY 9     Tyndrum to Edinburgh (89miles) [/p][p]DAY 10   Edinburgh to Bamburgh to Newcastle (139miles) [/p][p] [/p][p]We would encourage your support en route and especially on the last day, Sunday 3rd September, where we will be joined by friends, family and colleagues to cycle the last leg from Bamburgh to Newcastle on the 65 mile scenic route along the Northumberland coast line. If you wish to join us please contact Darren or Luke for further details.[/p][lt]h3[gt]THANKS[lt]/h3[gt][p]No matter how big or how small a donation, it all helps to make the event a success and help support two fantastic charities and the work that they do.[/p][p]On behalf or Darren and Luke, thank you.[/p]

Great efforts lads, along way on the bike I am sure. Darren - saw you in the last mile of the Great North Run, you looked strong - another great effort. You lads need to rest up now, those legs must be tired? You should both be proud. A great cause.
