My story

[p]My name is Alastair McMurray and I'm undertaking a mammoth Sportathon for 3 charities over the months of August and September this year.[/p][p]In completing this I'm hoping to raise £100,000 to split equally between Bloodwise, Bowel Cancer UK and the Brain Tumour Charity.[/p][p]After raising over £30,000 running 30 half marathons in 30 days 8 years ago, I've decided to up the ante and set myself an even more difficult challenge to try and raise over 3 times this amount. [/p][p]My challenge involves;[/p][p]- Tennis for 12 hours (the longest match in history was 11 hours, over 3 days)[/p][p]- Cycling from Lands End to John O’ Groats (10 days – 120 miles per day)[/p][p]- Swimming 20 Kilometres (this will take around 10-11 hours)[/p][p]- Running 30 half marathons in 30 days (each one must be under 2 hours)[/p][p]These 3 charities which deal with cancers that have affected friends and family close to me. [/p][p]I know that these charities don’t get as many donations as other cancer charities so wanted to try and raise a good chunk of money for them and also help raise awareness of the work that they do.[/p][p]I've been training hard but not all the sports come naturally to me; I enjoy tennis, running and cycling, but I’m not a keen swimmer. The relentlessness of this is a real challenge for a bloke my age. 30 half marathons the first time back in 2011 was hard enough without having done all these other sports beforehand! My longest cycle is 65 miles, most I’ve ever played tennis is a couple of hours. I’ve never swam any sort of long distance – that will certainly be my biggest challenge.[/p][p]If you can spare anything at all to sponsor me for the challenge I would be so grateful. [/p][p]After all the events are done I'll be holding a Ceilidh to Celebrate it all being over.
