My story

[p]I am running the Virgin Money London Marathon on 22nd April 2018 to fundraise for Parkinson's UK![/p][p]Click on the link to go to my marathon blog for the latest news.[/p][p]Check out my YouTube channel with videos of my long weekend training runs.[/p][p]I was thrilled to obtain a charity place for Parkinson's UK this year, because it is a charity dear to my heart with both my Dad, Erik, and my uncle, Mike Fuller-Lewis having suffered with Parkinson's disease for many years now. This is a huge challenge for me after having only taken up running about 2 years ago (thanks to the Zombies, Run! app) - needless to say I have never run a marathon before in my life![/p][p]Parkinson's is a disease that affects the brain and gets worse over time - there is currently no cure. Those with the disease (estimated to currently be 145,000 people in the UK) are unable to produce enough of a chemical called dopamine in their brain as cells die making movements slower and making everyday activities harder to do. In the case of my Dad, he additionally suffers from a type of dementia that can often accompany the disease.[/p][p]If you would like to donate to Parkinson's UK and lend your support to my "marathon" efforts (!), then your options are:[/p][p]1. Donate instantly via this page by clicking on the "Donate" button. (Virgin Money is a not for profit organisation and will transfer the funds within 7 days to Parkinson's UK, and charge the charity a 2% transaction fee + 1.45% card processing fee [except for American Express and Paypal which is 1.6%] on your initial donation but collect the Gift Aid money from HMRC for free where this applies.)[/p][p]2. Contact me via this link and pledge your support in advance. After the event either make your donation via this page, or pay me by cash or cheque and I will send on to Parkinson's UK directly. (Also let me know if Gift Aid can be claimed if you do this).[/p][p]I really appreciate all your support (whatever you are able to donate) as every donation will encourage me to keep heading out of the house on those dark winter nights after work to get another training run in![/p][p]Photos below:[/p][p]Me out on a run![/p][p]My beloved parents (Sally & Erik)![/p][p]My uncle (Mike), me, son (Sam), wife (Hannah - who probably feels like she's running the marathon for with me with all of the washing, and putting up with the disruption to our weekends![/p]
