My story

[lt]h1 class="western"[gt]A brief history[lt]/h1[gt] [lt]p class="western"[gt]https://vimeo.com/141589359[/p][lt]p class="western"[gt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cznOUEBJfwM[/p][lt]p class="western"[gt]In 1991 whilst attached to the United Nations in Cyprus I suffered a life changing injury to my right leg. In 2009 my condition had deteriorated to the point where walking was painfully difficult, it was suggested to me that I contact SSAFA to see if they are able to help, they did all the form filling and ringing around to get me a mobility scooter, 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards (my old Regiment) and The Royal British Legion came up with the money to pay for it. I was then made redundant in August 2010, instead of sitting around and doing nothing I started planning a trip 'Round Wales', this took place during May and June of 2011 and covered more than 1450 miles and raised just over £9000 for 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards, Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion.[/p] [lt]p class="western"[gt]Before even finishing that I had already started planning this trip in my mind. I added SSAFA to the list after I embarrassingly forgot them on my first trip! I added the Royal National Lifeboat Institution so that I had goals other than the end of each day, they are also in my eyes unsung heroes just as the forces are![/p][lt]h2 class="western"[gt]Now...[lt]/h2[gt][lt]p class="western"[gt]As I've now finished the coast I'm now on Phase 2, to photograph and catalogue Warand Lifeboat Graves and Memorials a county at a time, I suspect I have about 10 years left! All the images will be on my website www.war-graves.co.uk, all the memorial images are being sent to the Imperial War Museum for the national archive, I am now a contributer to this.[/p][lt]p class="western"[gt]In April 2015 I was awarded a Guinness World Record for my efforts of travelling around the coast on a Beamer Tramper TWS. In the same month I was presented with an award (in my absence) for being the individual who raised the most money in 2014 for the British Legion, this was becuase of your generosity, thank you.[/p][lt]h2 class="western"[gt]How I live...[lt]/h2[gt] [lt]p class="western"[gt]I fund my trips with the little money I have left from my War Pension and the generosity of the British people and Businesses.[/p][lt]h2 class="western"[gt]Why[lt]/h2[gt] [lt]p class="western"[gt]I got my scooter on the 23 December 2009 after a lot of help from the Royal British Legion, 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards and the Army Benevolent fund. The Soldiers, Sailors Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help did all the leg work and form filling for me. I have covered nearly 10000 miles in that time, quite possibly the most used mobility scooter in Britain.[/p][lt]h2 class="western"[gt]Targets?[lt]/h2[gt] [lt]p class="western"[gt]I never set a target amount as I'm grateful for every penny and I'm pretty sure the charities are.[/p][lt]p class="western"[gt]To visit as many graves and memorials as I can, I know I will never get to everyone but I'll give it a go![/p][lt]p class="western"[gt]I travel with Missy and Smudge, my two cats.[/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/guqStJf8Tcg?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo]
