My story

[p]On April 22, 2018, aged 59, I ran the London Marathon (a lot was walked, if I’m honest) after just six months of training following an unexpected success in the ballot. I’d not run since school, and sport was of only passing interest, so my modest finishing time (6:26:21 – 90 minutes slower than I’d hoped) in the hottest London Marathon there’d ever been was no surprise.[/p][p]Despite that, I had a brilliant day. The travelling cheer squad helped (thanks again), as did the crowds and the atmosphere, and I even raised some money for Cats Protection and Animals Asia. Thanks to everyone who donated.[/p][p]As soon as I finished I wanted to do it all again, so I signed up with Cats Protection for a charity place – the chances of coming up in the ballot two years running were low – and on April 28, 2019, I completed my second London Marathon, 4mins slower than the year before. That was disappointing, but raising cash for CP wasn't. And I'm in the ballot for 2020.[/p][p]As an additional fundraiser, all the profits from my book A Cat Called Tess are being added to the total. It’s only £5 and the small person in your life will love it. As will bigger feline fans. You can see a preview and buy it here.[/p][p]Update: On October 14, 2018, six months after my first London Marathon, I ran in t’ Yorkshire Marathon in and around York. Despite huge amounts of rain, and having turned 60 two months earlier, I knocked 38 minutes off my London time.[/p][p]Update 2: As well as London, in 2019 I'll return to Yorkshire in October for the marathon and run half marathons in Leamington (July) and Newcastle (the Great North Run in September). There may be more: watch this space.[/p][p]PS: When you shop online, find your stores via GoRaise and you'll help me raise money at absolutely no cost to you.
