Team story

[p][span=color: #339966;]Well we did it. 100kms around London at night and managed to pass the £5K mark. A fantastic effort by all of the team, plus our support crew. 14 cyclists took part, setting off from Ally Pally at 00:50 on Sunday morning. We rode the first half - to Crystal Palace - as a team, before splitting after that point to make our ways home. For most of us it took between 8-9 hours, a mamoth effort. As always London was very busy particularly through the West End and a few scary moments were had, yet thankfully we all survived with only the odd ache and pain. There seemed to be many hills this year and a cobbled road system had been added, which was not pleasant. For some it was enjoyable, for a few it was a slog, yet all who took part in the event can take the utmost satisfaction,as they asked themselves a question and will now understand a little more about their personality. That so much money has been raised is a great credit to the team and our many supporters, we thank everyone who helped and supported our cause. For me this was a great event, fantastic to be a part of a team again and I thank all who joined in making this a highlight. Vic Demain.[/span][/p][p][span=color: #ff00ff;] [/span][/p][p][span=color: #ff00ff;]With little over a month to go before the event, time for an update. Over the past few months a number of fundraising events have been held by various members of the team, which have resulted in the fantastic running total that we have reached. Of course your further support would be great for all. All the team are out training hard and various plans are being put into place as to how best to tackle 5/6hrs in the saddle. We can't thank eveyone enough for the support, which will make a great difference to the research team. Now is the time for the team to unite and put in that final effort. Thanks for reading and your continued support[/span][/p][p]Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Team members: Phil Cox, Mark Crone, Ian Demain, Sue Demain, Vic Demain, Matt Frost, Joe Harris, Nigel Hutt, Dan Maroske, Ramesh Patel, Julian Penney, Steve Penney & Dan Woolf.[/span][/p][p][span=color: #ff00ff;]In 2012 I took part in the London Nightrider as an idividual. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding evenings of my life. Such was the sense of achievement on reaching the finish line. All the doubts had been overcome, all the hours of hard training worthwhile as the finish line was reached after a horrible final climb. For the money raised was put towards the Breakthrough Breast Cancer pool, which allowed the scientists to buy an incubator to allow further research into the disease. Having initially thought that I would not do the challenge again, the rush has returned and this time we are putting a team together. We will ride as one around the sights of London by night. From Alexandra Palace, through Camden, into the heart of the city, over the river, The London Eye, Houses of Parliment, Covent Garden, down to Crystal Palace where the sun should be starting to appear, up through deserted South London streets on a Sunday morning to Tower Bridge, into Canary Wharf, past The Emirates and back to Ally Pally. 100km in total. Please join us on our journey. Vic.[/span][/p][p][span=color: #008000;]My name is Phil and I am hoping to raise a reasonable amount of cash for Breakthrough Breast Cancer by taking the London Nightrider Challenge. Vic and I used to play cricket together back in the 90's, he invited me to join the team knowing that I enjoy cycling and have raised money for other charities in the past by taking part in endurance events. Being a complete country mouse, I am looking forward to seeing some the the sights of fancy London! If you have a few quid spare, please consider sponsoring the team, it would be much appreciated![/span][/p][p][span=color: #ff00ff;]Hi, Julian 'Jules' Penney here. I also had the priviledge of playing cricket with Vic in the 90s, a sporting bond which has stuck over the years. I know how passionate Vic is about Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the time and dedication he has already put in to raise money for this most worthy cause. His account of last years Nightrider has inspired me to be part of the Team this year and enjoy a great sporting event by raising some more money for BBC and going through some pain and hopefully fun with some good freinds.  Your support would be great, all donations gratefully received.[/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Hi, my name is Dan Maroske. I have known the Demain's for a good number of years, having first met Tubes (Ian) through cricket in 2006. I followed with interest Vic's 2012 Nightrider efforts, as well as his other charitable endeavours, and the opportunity to take part in the 2013 edition, along with some fellow CCCC legends is something I am very excited about. To date, the most physically challenging thing Vic has put me through is trying to generate some pace and bounce on one of his 'roads' at Uxbridge CC, but I know that 100km on London's roads will be so much harder. I am not much of a cyclist, but I love a challenge, and the opportunity to share this experience with friends while raising money to fight a disease that has affected a number of my loved ones is very motivating. Thanks in advance for any support you can give. Cheers, Dan.[/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #339966;"[gt]Hello I'm Ramesh. Vic & I first met in 1986, when we were both candidates on a week long Advanced Cricket Coaches course. We then lost contact until I started working at Uxbridge Cricket Club in 2009 as Vic's assistant groundsman. Since then we have worked together on many fund raising events including 3 curry nights, where I have acted as Head Chef. We have received great support from Middlesex CCC and its supporters. I wanted to join the ride last year but we couldn't both go missing from work. Now I have a new position, I am able to do so. I am very much looking forward to joining the team, making new friends and having a brilliant night together. Please support us and thanks for your help. Regards, Ram.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #ff00ff;"[gt]Hi All, I'm Mark and I am delighted to be joining Vic and some of our old Cricket mates on the London Night Rider Challenge.  For those wishing to part with a little money for sponsorship then please picture the torture of cycling 100km, whilst being downwind of the likes of Jules and Spence.  I am sure this image really will help you to dig deep. It will be a real pleasure cycling with some great friends and for a great cause in Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Thanks to everybody who can help to support us.  Best wishes, Mark.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #ff0000;"[gt]I am Steve Penney (Spence) and have known our Team Leader Vic for nearly 20 years and have worked on a number of cricket related projects with him Ian and Sue. Vic is just a top bloke and when I heard about him doing the ride last year I hoped that that this year I could get involved and ride with him. As it turns out we got a full Eleven + a 12th man ! Only difference is we are all going to be "playing". I know most of the other team members (Had a couple  of Ram's currys so that must count !) so am really looking forward to riding with you all and seeing the sights of London en route. I have done a fair amount of riding but am not in any way underestimating the LNR. Its a very different challenge for lots of reasons and I know that preparation is the key to completion. Please support our team and lets raise as much as we can for this very worthy cause.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt] Hi, my name is Nigel 'Jabba' Hutt and had the privileage of being coached by our team leader, then working and playing along side him many years ago.  I was really pleased to be included in the team selection and happy to help raise some money for this really important charity which I know is very close to Vic and Lyn's hearts.  The idea of riding 100km hasn't properly sunk in but with training I am looking forward to joining the team in what I anticipate being a great experience!. I hope that all who know me will generously donate to this really worthy cause, cheers Jabba.[/span][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #000000;"[gt]Thanks for taking the time and having a look at our page. After watching all the great work my dad has done raising money for this charity over the last few years i decided it was time i helped him out. Please give what you can, big or small. Really looking forward to riding with a great group of friends, thanks again, Ian Demain[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #000000;"[gt]Hi my name is Dan Woolf, I was fortunate enough to meet Vic at the Westminster Fly-In and am delighted to have joined the team for the Nightrider event. I am currently an intern in Breakthrough's research department and am delighted to be supporting such a fantastic cause. I look forward to the experience, which will be a good challenge for me in what I am sure will be one of many for the charity![/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #339966;"[gt]Offline donations:[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #339966;"[gt]£238 - Profit from Celebration Curry Night.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #339966;"[gt]£187 - Supporters of Matt Frost.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #339966;"[gt]£370 - Friends & Family of Julian Penney.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #339966;"[gt]£ 40.00 - Peter Moore race night ownership of horse and donation.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt][lt]span style="color: #339966;"[gt]£ 200 - Uxbridge Cricket Club.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/p]
