My story

[p]On 13th September this year (2015), I intend to run the New Forest Half Marathon in aid of the Donkey Sanctuary. [/p][p]I was inspired to run for this charity because of their important work in Morocco with Ellen Cochrane where she is persuading mule handlers to swap their cruel bits for kind headcollars and is teaching them how to work gently with their mules. I have seen beautiful transformations take place and feel passionately about supporting this project and the work of the Donkey Sanctuary in general.[/p][p]The New Forest Half Marathon will be my first race (other than a fun run when I was about 12!). 2 years ago, i was 5 stone (60lbs) heavier and completely unfit. I had a dream though. I wanted to teach my horse to accept a rider, working only within her consent and with as little tack as possible. Before I could do this, I needed to get down to the right weight for her to carry and I needed to get fit and agile. [/p][p]I went on the Juice Diet, returned to my love of martial arts and took up running. At first, it was an effort to walk a mile and there was no question of me running. But gradually the walking became power walking and the distances grew and, before long, I was able to run. To my delight, and with a little help and guidance, I was able to persuade my beautiful horse to accept me as a rider. When I first sat on her, it was with only a bareback pad and a soft, plain headcollar - just as I had hoped for. It was the best experience of my life! I wish all horses and mules could be trained in this way and spared the pain, suffering and abuse that many suffer.[/p][p]In April of this year, I had built my running up to a few miles and I set my target to run the New Forest Half Marathon. Even now, with 6 weeks to go before the big day, the furthest I have run is about 9 miles and that feels pretty awful! I still don't know if I will be able to make it to 13.1 miles, but I am going to give it every effort I can.[/p][p]Please support this fund raising effort if you can. Knowing I am raising money for the Donkey Sanctuary and their efforts worldwide to relieve the suffering of donkeys and mules will give me the strength to fight on to the end of this considerable physical challenge! [/p][p]Thank you and bless you xxx[/p][p]Caroline[/p][p]Revd Dr Caroline Wilkins[/p][p]New Forest Franciscans[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
