My story

[p]This year, in November, I will be setting off on a 130km round trip from the village of Lukla to the Everest Base Camp, situated at a staggering 5,364 m (17,600 ft). It's a long way, with significantly reduced oxygen and it'll be pretty damned cold! I'll be trekking with a 30-strong team of intrepid explorers and I plan to document the whole trip through my photography (and maybe a vlog!) [/p][p]So, why on earth would I want to do something as daft as this? Well, as you know 1-in-2 of us will get cancer in our lives but what you probably don't know is that 150 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every day. EVERY DAY! And breast cancer still remains the most common in the country, killing 11,563 people every year. Those numbers are terrifying and we all have mothers or wives or daughters or sisters that could be affected. And it's not just women; 1 in 1000 men will get breast cancer in their lifetime too. In 2010 my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer but thankfully she was treated and has been cancer-free for about 7 years but the scars remain and she lives under the black cloud of cancer every day.[/p][p]Finding a cure is clearly very important but early detection and prevention in the first place is surely something that we should be striving for. Prevent Breast Cancer are the only charity in the UK that fund research into prediction and prevention and they're doing some pretty ground-breaking scientific work. If you want to find out more about what they're doing please see their Research page here: https://preventbreastcancer.org.uk/breast-cancer-research/ [/p][p]If you are able to donate, even just a small amount, to this essential research it would be greatly appreciated and will contribute to reducing the number of diagnosis each year. [/p][p]Thank you very much, [/p][p]Glenn [/p]
