Team story

[p]Craig Lundberg’s story is one of ‘victory over blindness’, although one would not have predicted that back in March 2007. [/p][p]Craig, who is a member of Blind Veterans UK , lost all of his sight during a rooftop battle with insurgents in Basra in March 2007 when a rocket-propelled grenade exploded into his face and upper body when it hit his body armour. At 21 years of age, this does not bear thinking about. A young soldier, blinded; he could have given up.[/p][p]12 years on, Craig is father of 3 amazing children, owner of 2 successful businesses and more competitive and active in his chosen sports than most sighted people. He has played football for England Blind Football Team, climbed Kilimanjaro and ran the London marathon. He now takes on the ‘challenge of his life’; to cycle from Land’s End to John O Groats, on a tandem, with the help of his sighted pilot, Callum Edge. The team believe that Craig, if he does this within the 10 day target, will be the fastest blind person to do so ever. [/p][p]The team are raising money for Blind Veterans UK and Vision Aid Overseas. [/p][p]The cycling team are:[/p][p]-Craig Lundberg and Callum Edge on their trusted Tandem[/p][p]-Richard Hill[/p][p]-David Clacher[/p][p]-Simon Russell[/p][p]-Richard Alderton[/p][p]-Patrick Gatenby[/p][p]When asked why take on this challenge now Craig’s reply was that he is ‘driven by challenge and without it he gets up to mischief! When faced with epic challenges he performs better all-round as individual’.[/p][p]'Between now and June we will be training hard to ensure we are in the best position to take on the challenge, and your support means everything to us and will spur us on in both training and the big journey ahead.'[/p][p]Blind Veterans UK has meant a lot to Craig in his re-building of his life since sight loss and are key to this success story. They are always there, whenever you need them and I would encourage more blind ex-Service men and women to contact them if they haven't. They are a massive support in the process of leading independent and fulfilling lives. They have immense experience and a full range of services.' [/p][p]Blind Veterans Uk has been offering physical and emotional support to vision-impaired veterans since 1915.[/p][p]Founded in 1985, Vision Aid Overseas has been helping some of the world’s poorest people to see clearly for over 30 years. Whether you are a teacher in Ghana, a seamstress in Zambia or a school pupil in Ethiopia, poor eye sight can have a devastating impact on your life and livelihood.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you for your support.[/p]
