My story

[p]Bonza's Blog - Munter to Marathon![/p][p]So back in2019, I entered the London Marathon, running for CWCUK.[/p][p]Seemed like a great idea back then, simply because I got laughed at when said I was thinking of entering.[/p][p]Virtual marathon now done, with an awful time, but had to hobble from mile 15 as calf tear flared up.[/p][p]This year, after double the training, further injuries, eating right, no alcohol, a stone and a half weight loss and entering various runs on the way, I am shocked to see the results. [/p][p]Absolutely nothing!!! I still can't bloody run!!!!!![/p][p]Anyway, I will be dragging my sorry backside around London, pretending it is a 26.2 mile walk to the pub. Along the way I hope many of you will sponsor me and cheer me on.[/p][p]I have come to terms that I am not going to win the event (Much to my daughters disgust) but that's to be expected when they are giving these guys a two hour head start on me! Jeez!!![/p][p]"Whats that running over the hill is it a monster? It's Steven Bonsor!!!"[/p][p]Training has been going well, up until recent injuries, but I'll get there. To be honest, I'll be glad to beat the bloke who walks it in a deep sea diver outfit each year! Apparently some fella ran a marathon in under two hours, so it can't be that hard can it?![/p][p]My Strava feed is a mess of woeful running times, and pictures of missing toenails, blister and 'Bonzas food of the day'. Humour me please! and this will continue through to 2 days before I turn 44, and take on my first marathon.[/p][p]So its official. Im in. Fundraising page is set up. No turning back. If you see me out for a run, give me a toot/shout etc, any motivation is appreciated.[/p][p]Why Children With Cancer UK? I have two beautiful kids. I have friends family affected by cancer.[/p][p]---This year, I also have a friends wife battling this. Much love to Carol, you got this!--- [/p][p]Really is that simple for me.[/p][p]Thank you all for taking the time to read my blurb on here. Below is the serious bit.[/p][p]Bonza out![/p][p][br][/p][p]Every day 12 families in the UK receive the devastating news that their child has cancer. Through funding vital specialist research, Children with Cancer UK has done everything in its power to give these children the best chance to survive. [/p][p]With your support Children with Cancer UK can fund over 60 research projects across the UK accelerating breakthroughs to help drive up childhood cancer survival rates and find kinder, more effective treatments to reduce long-term side effects. This ground breaking research saves children's lives and would otherwise go unfunded. [/p][p]Knowing treatment can be especially challenging for family life, Children with Cancer UK also helps fund patient family accommodation near hospitals so families can stay together during their children's treatment. We also organise unforgettable days out for children and their families to create memories that will never be lost. [/p][p]But we still have so much more to do. A single child dying from cancer is one too many. With your support, we are helping to create a future in which every child with cancer survives and experiences the life changing moment when they ring the end of treatment bell.[/p][p]Thank you for helping to save the lives of children with cancer and keep families together.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Children with Cancer UK. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]------------------------------------UPDATE---------------------------[/p][p]I'm still S**t at running, but guess what? I GOT ROUND!!!!!!!!![/p][p]Massive thanks to all who have sponsored me so far - same again next year?[/p]
