Team story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting our page. [/p][p]We are a small group of walkers who like to combine trying to fit in a walk around our local hills with sometimes doing something a bit more challenging and raising a bit of cash for good causes at the same time.[/p][p]This year, we picked the Red Cross.  It was months ago, so we didn't know that when we did the walk Europe would be struggling to support thousands of people fleeing their homes and needing our help.  The Red Cross is one of many organisations that are helping and we are proud to be supporting them and grateful and humbled by your support.[/p][p]Now we've done the event, here's Taru's update:[/p][lt]p style="margin: 0px 0px 6px;"[gt]We did it!![/p] [lt]p style="margin: 6px 0px;"[gt]I'm sitting in an armchair writing this, and I'm not sure how easily I'll get out of it; my hips are disowning me today! We completed the Red Cross Challenge Walk yesterday in around 11 hours. That was 11 hours of up-one-side-and down-the-next. And finishing with two hours of not-another-bloody-'steep-incline'!![/p] [lt]p style="margin: 6px 0px;"[gt]But we did it!![/p] [lt]div class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;"[gt] [lt]p style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;"[gt]As some of you will know, I'm a pretty avid walker and consider myself to be reasonable fit and used to walking long distances, but this really was a challenge walk. I walk with three friends and a few weeks ago we'd done the Yorkshire Three Peaks in preparation for yesterday. We thought we'd overdone the preparation, but, I have to say, I found yesterday even more challenging than the Y3P.[/p] [lt]p style="margin: 6px 0px; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;"[gt]But we did it!![/p] [lt]p style="margin: 6px 0px; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;"[gt]We left our campsite at 5.30am; it was dark and cold and raining. We had to be in Prestatyn by 6.30 to register and get on a coach to be taken to the start of the walk. As we got off the coach we were the last of the walkers to set off - delaying to feed Scout, the dog, and sort out water etc. By the time we finished we were about 20th from the front! (but we're not competitive!) There were a number of people 'rescued' off the walk, or ones who got to a checkpoint and just couldn't go any further (it was tough going - did I mention that?). The weather was pretty dreadful for the first half of the day, which was a shame as we missed out on some spectacular views, I've been told - but it brightened up in the afternoon and we reached Prestatyn with a glorious sunset which we viewed from the tops of the cliff at about 7.30pm. A long day![/p] [lt]p style="margin: 6px 0px; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;"[gt]But we did it!![/p] [lt]p style="margin: 6px 0px; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;"[gt]We set ourselves the challenge of raising £600 as a team, then in recent weeks with the knowledge of the great work that the Red Cross are doing to help the refugee crisis we upped our goal to £1,000. It seemed like a big ask...[/p] [lt]p style="margin: 6px 0px; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;"[gt]But, with your help, we did it!![/p] [lt]/div[gt][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
