My story

[p]So, here I am all old and bald and trying to run my 10th London Marathon...[/p][p]I run the marathon for one reason and that is for my darling boy, Riley, who passed away when he was 4 years old. He was born particularly special with a wonderful humour, spirit and magnetism. A real one of a kind. Unfortunately, he had severe complex physical disabilities and was unable to walk or sit up and had very weak bones which resulted in around 27 broken bones in his life. All of which he handled with bravery, wit and charm. Never a day did he moan![/p][p]Anyway, in 2006 he and I we were watching TV and a marathon advert came on and he turned to me and said "can you do that daddy?". I couldn't of course but I said yes. He took a real interest in my training, checking my pedometer, helping me pick my running gear and many hours running around the hospital with him in his wheelchair![/p][p]I completed the London Marathon in 2007 and Riley was there to greet me and was probably the proudest boy I had ever seen. My heart could have exploded with pride looking at him. Riley passed away days later and I have probably never recovered if I am honest but one place that I know he will always be is at that finishing line. I miss him beyond words or normal emotion. [/p][p]So, 9 marathons later I am embarking on my 10th marathon and need your support![/p][p]Every marathon I have run has been for the charity, KIDS. They helped with advice and support when Riley was born. They are charity that focus on what a child CAN do rather than what they CAN'T! And I am eternally grateful to them. Their work is incredibly important to children who don't have the things that we take for granted like mobility and good health. KIDS offer equipment, specialised education and unbelievable support to families. This...is a worthy cause![/p][p]As a family and friends unit we have raised over £25k via my marathons and probably another £15-20k via other people running in Riley's name. [/p][p]I don't raise money. I just run. You lot raise the money! Let's do it again...[/p]
