Team story

[p]Thanks for visiting our page. As a celebration for us both reaching a certain age, we returned to Ladakh in the Indian Himalaya and took up the challenge of climbing Stok Kangri at 6,141m (20147ft). However, very close to the summit, at approximately 6,000 metres, bad weather closed in and we were advised by our leader not to continue over an extremely difficult and dangerous ridge which led to the summit. Having left base camp at 1am, we had already been climbing relentlessly for almost seven hours over terrain which included crossing a glacier and zigzagging up a very steep snowfield at a 40 degree angle for almost four hours before finally climbing to the ridge. Stronger members of the group who did reach the summit experienced a complete white-out. All said it was the most difficult and challenging thing they had done. We agree![/p][p]We're aiming high in our money target too and splitting the money we raise between two charities. We have supported the Tibet Relief Fund for many years. TRF runs numerous projects in healthcare, education, self-sustainability and development as well as a sponsorship programme for Tibetan children, monks, nuns and the elderly in exile in India and Nepal. For more info, click on the TRF logo on this page.[/p][p]We travelled with Exodus Travels and one of their Himalayan Community Support Projects, run by Friends of Conservation, aims to eliminate the use of plastic water bottles by trekkers and locals in the popular Markha Valley. For more info on this project, go to http://www.exodus.co.uk/responsible-travel/our-projects/himalayan-community-support? We were able to visit a tea tent where this project was in operation and were very impressed with what we saw.[/p][p] Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and all donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
