Team story

[p][b][span=text-decoration: underline;]Challen[/span][/b][b]g[span=text-decoration: underline;]e 2015[/span][/b][/p][p]I am completing a ‘Year of Challenge’ in order to raise valuable funds for Brain Tumour Research, inspired by Andrew Robinson who passed away from a brain tumour in 2014 aged 27.[/p][p][/p][p]I am completing 3 half marathons and two cycle rides:[/p][ul][li]Leeds half marathon – May 10th[/li][li]Chester half marathon – May 17th[/li][li]Lands End to John O’Groats – set off July 20[sup]th[/sup] (Andrew’s Birthday)[/li][li]Coast to Coast - set off August 22nd [/li][li]Great North Run – September 13[sup]th[/sup][/li][/ul][p][/p][p]Andrew was diagnosed in December 2012 and was given a 10% chance of survival.  He underwent an intensive course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and battled on maintaining a positive outlook despite the odds being stacked against him.  Andrew was passionate about sport, being active and taking on challenges so we thought this was the perfect opportunity to remember him and celebrate his life by doing something that he would have loved.[/p][p][/p][p]I have two mad friends joining me for the Lands End to John O’Groats bike ride, Megan and Rob, one a keen cyclist and one who was drunk when I asked her![/p][p][/p][p]Our Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/uberchallenge2015 [/p][p][/p][p]We hope that you will take the time to sponsor us to raise much needed funds for a disease which affects around 16,000 new families each year, yet receives only 1% of national cancer research spending.[/p][p][/p][p]Brain Tumours – the facts from Brain Tumour Research:[/p][ul][li]More children and adults under 40 die of a brain tumour than from any other cancer.[/li][li]16,000 people each year are diagnosed with a brain tumour.[/li][li]Just under 20% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive beyond five years, compared with an average of 50% across all cancers.[/li][li]One in 50 people who are dying under the age of 60, die of a brain tumour.[/li][li]Unlike most other cancers, incidences of deaths from brain tumours are becoming more prevalent (and are much more common now than in 1970).[/li][/ul][p][/p][p]For more information about Brain Tumour Research visit [url=..\..\..\Users\Liz\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary%20Internet%20Files\Content.Outlook\T86VLIYS\www.braintumourresearch.org]www.braintumourresearch.org[/url], email [url=https://mce_host/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/..\..\..\Users\Liz\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary%20Internet%20Files\Content.Outlook\T86VLIYS\info@braintumourresearch.org]info@braintumourresearch.org[/url] or call the office on 01296 733011. [/p]
