[p]“I think what you are doing is very good. You know, it livens the place up a bit. It is nice to have the sound of laughter and people enjoying themselves” Care Home resident[/p][p][lt]object style="width: 425px; height: 350px;" width="425" height="350" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/tza4fQn5Qyk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"[gt][lt]param name="data" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tza4fQn5Qyk" /[gt][lt]param name="quality" value="high" /[gt][lt]param name="wmode" value="transparent" /[gt][lt]param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tza4fQn5Qyk" /[gt][lt]/object[gt][/p] [p]Cocktails in Care Homes is a project run by arts charity Magic Me. Every week Magic Me volunteers visit a London care home to host an evening cocktail party. Residents get dressed up and look forward to the special occasion. For many this is the only visit they get and residents enjoy begin in touch with the wider community.[/p] [p]Christmas can be a particularly lonely time of year for care home residents and this is your chance to bring them a bit of sparkle and friendship![/p] [p]This year we have hosted 41 parties for over 152 older people and over 130 volunteers at six London care homes. We have had requests from many care homes to take our cocktail parties to them, and next year we will be reaching more isolated older people by working with two new care homes.[/p] [p]To throw a cocktail party costs £100 which includes some of the following: [/p] [ul] [li]bottles of wine at £5 [/li] [li]some beers at £5[/li] [li]trays of fruit cocktails at £6[/li] [li]bottles of Sherry at £7[/li] [li]a round of G & Ts or a medley of mixers at £10 [/li] [li]an assortment of crisps and snacks at £10[/li] [/ul] [p]Buy a resident a glass of sherry, or a delicious fruit cocktail now, and help us to continue to bring fun and glamour to care homes![/p] [p][/p] [p]Cocktails in Care Homes currently runs in 6 care homes in East and North London. In 2014 we will start working with a care home in Surrey Quays and Leyton. Our volunteer pool grows every year and allows us to reach more residents across the city.[/p] [p][span=text-decoration: underline;]Our Corporate Partners[/span][/p] [p]Cocktails in Care Homes is enriched by contributions from our volunteers, student placements and corporate partners:[/p] [p]-          John Lewis Stratford: In March 2013 we partnered with John Lewis Stratford and their Visual Merchandise Team. Every month the John Lewis team work with residents and volunteers to come up with a party theme. They use in-store props and materials to design and make decorations for the parties. Past themes include: Old School Hollywood Glamour, Bringing the Garden Inside and Costa del Cocktail Beach Party, Halloween Party and Winter Wonderland 2013[/p] [p]-          Clifford Chance Tea Parties: As well as bringing people into care homes, we also actively promote taking residents out. Clifford Chance LLP host quarterly champagne tea parties with musical performances for the residents of all our partner care homes. Staff from Clifford Chance join the residents at the parties. Past events include A Cockney Sing Song with the Pearly Queen of Bow and a piano recital with Esther Cavett.[/p] [p]-          Clifford Chance Accessories: Every quarter secretaries of Clifford Chance LLP take part in a craft club where they make accessories for the parties. Past props include moustache straws, Hawaiian garlands and fortune tellers.[/p] [p]-          The Bank of England work with us to recruit volunteers. They have had 3 bespoke Inductions and we are working with 21 of their staff who regularly attend parties.[/p][p]-          Schroders work with us to recruit Volunteers and also donate to the parties[/p] [p]-          Private members club, Shoreditch House designed a retro cocktails menu and trained 20 volunteers in Mixology in Summer 2012[/p] [p][/p] [p]Entertainment[/p] [p]We work with London artists to bring exciting and current entertainment to care homes. From gospel, to gypsy jazz, reggae and folk music; residents enjoy live music and often get involved and perform at the parties as well. Thank you to The London String Quartet, Valerie Noble and James Riley for your contributions this year.[/p]
