My story

[p]After being inspired by the 2018 London Marathon, I decided to spontaneously (naively) enter myself into the 2019 London Marathon; much to my delight- and fear- I was given a place. On Sunday 28th April 2019, I will be running the London Marathon to support an incredible charity, MIND, who provide support and advice to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. [/p][p] In 2015, I sadly grieved the loss of my dad, who was suffering from a mental illness. This unforeseeable event has had a huge impact on my family and has significantly shifted my way of thinking; many aspects of my life have changed and I have developed an overwhelming desire to impact the lives of others in anyway possible. I will not only be running in memory of my dad, but I will be running to support all those suffering/who have suffered and for those who are close to someone suffering from a mental health problem.[/p][p]Why help me to raise money for Mind…everyone year, a staggering one in four of us will experience a mental health problem and only a measly one quarter of those suffering in the UK will receive support each year. Sadly, mental distress was linked to almost 6000 suicides in 2017 in Great Britain; 75 % male and 25 % female; and suicide is the most common cause of death for men aged 20-49 years in England and Wales. It is not only adults who suffer, within a classroom of 30 young people, three of those will have a diagnosable mental health problem.[/p][p] Mind believe that no-one facing a mental health problem should have to face it alone, Mind listen; everything they say is rooted in the experiences of those who know how it feels to experience a mental health problem and Mind act; they provide life changing support when people need it most. For more information on Mind’s incredible life changing work please see the link below…[/p][p] https://www.mind.org.uk/media/27181876/annual_review_2017-18.pdf[/p][p]I am sure you all know someone suffering or has suffered from a mental illness so please spare some change for them and make a donation- however big or small- the help and support will be greatly appreciated; I promise I will train my hardest to get my little legs across that finish line for such a worthy cause.[/p][p]Emily x [/p]
