Team story

[lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]In January 2016 our Mum was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. After an exceptionally brave fight, Mum lost her battle to cancer in November 2016. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]To run our first London Marathon is our way of demonstrating our support and love for Mum, as well as using our own strength and focus, to achieve a significant goal whilst raising money for The Christie.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]With her family at her side every step of the way, it was the treatment and support from The Christie that helped Mum in her fight and kept her smiling. The Oncology team made a very scary and worrying time for Mum that little bit easier, whilst giving the family a huge amount of support.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]After enduring an intensive course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, in July 2016 Mum’s condition suddenly deteriorated and she was admitted to The Christie. The care Mum received during this time was exemplary and the nurses went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable, receiving all the treatment she needed. Unfortunately Mum’s condition continued to worsen, she lost the ability to move or communicate and required 24 hour care. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]In contrast to increasing survival rates for other cancers, people dying from brain tumours under the age of 75 has increased. Raising money for The Christie will help fund research into new treatments, including equipment for the proton beam therapy centre currently under construction at The Christie.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]It is because of the expertise and professionalism shown by the staff at The Christie, and the support they have given the family, that we would like to give something back.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to The Christie. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for your donations.[/p]
