My story

[p]CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: It's been postponned until October and I will still be running. I was up to 16 miles which I will now build on. Kipchoge watch out, you might not run twice as fast as me for much longer !![/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]I’m running (hopefully), or jogging (more likely), or hobbling (distinct possibility) the London Marathon for our fabulous local theatre for young people - Pegasus. I promise to finish it even if I’m that person who is limping on when everyone has gone home. I will crawl if I have to. You have my word.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thomas Merton, a really quite famous monk said “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” [/p][p]Despite being very wise I’m sure even he had to suppress a small bit piece of smugness when he came up with that. But really , what price do you put on giving hundreds of young people from all walks of life and backgrounds the opportunity to learn, express and transform themselves through drama and dance and song ? And what’s the benefit not just to them but to all of us to have these more confident, wise and expressive people wandering our streets ? [/p][p]Well the answer to part one is easy – it’s about £700,000 A YEAR of which £200,000 has to be directly fundraised by Pegasus. The answer to part two is impossible to quantify. One day economists will measure the knock on effects the sort of thing Pegasus does for us, and I am sure it will be shown to run at a profit that runs in to the millions.[/p][p]So my daughter goes to Pegasus and has done for years. The street dance classes have been a game changer. Off the back of them and her inspirational teacher, she auditioned for the National Youth Dance Company and got a place down at Sadlers Wells ! Without Pegasus she wouldn’t have developed enough and had the confidence to have done that I think. [/p][p]Now she’s on the Professional Drama Diploma at Pegasus, in its second year, for her sixth form education. She has brilliant teachers and I never thought I would witness her getting up and out every day and arriving at school early ! There are thirty in her class and I have never seen her so happy. Whatever she goes on to do she will be a fuller and more grounded human for her experiences with Pegasus. [/p][p]So get along there and see a show ! Support them, and, oh yes me as well, go on chuck some money at me using that donate button ![/p]

Excellent stuff dude. Doing a marathon with people cheering you is hard enough. Having the motivation and perseverance to do it in your garden is something else!

Well done Dave. Very much in the spirit of Capt Tom Moore. What was your time? Here's some of the money I've saved on diesel by not travelling to play cricket this month. I think it is vitally important that the arts will survive this pandemic.
