My story

[p]In July 2017 I was diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukaemia, which was an illness that I was obviously not too familiar with. Being described by my consultant as "one of the least of the nasties".. after absorbing this news as best I could, I turned to the internet to supplement the information provided by the medical staff. Information on the Bloodwise website was top of the rankings so this became my source of information on the journey that lay ahead for me. I signed up on their forums, Facebook pages and was really reassured by both the staff and the wider Bloodwise community.[/p][p]Bloodwise funds world-class research into all types of blood cancer. Everything they do is focussed on improving the lives of everyone affected by blood cancer, which is the fifth most common cancer in the UK. Their aim is bring forward the day when every single person affected by blood cancer is able to live a full life.[/p][p]I followed the Ride London 2017 from my hospital bed, my father-in-law Julian, & brother-in-law, Tom were riding... I was supposed to be with them. Thankfully, due to the marvellous work of the NHS staff in the Royal Free (Barnet & Enfield) my treatment was a success and I was declared in full clinical remission in January 2018. [/p][p]I rode in the 2018 event, raising funds for Bloodwise, with both Julian & Tom and co-brother-in-law Alex (raising funds for Lung Cancer), supported by my family at the 99 mile mark with the team from Bloodwise. (Read my review of 2018 here). It was a bit rainy that day... hopefully we will have better weather this year.[/p][p]Bloodwise funds research, which you can read about on their website. This research has lead to clinical trials and saved lives.[/p][p]If you can take the time to donate the price of a beer, the price of a coffee, more if you can afford it, I would be very grateful.[/p][p]Thank You..[/p][p]David [/p]
