My story

[p]London is calling ![/p][p]In April I'll be running my first London marathon, raising important funds for The Stroke Association. I'm massively excited to be running in London. Since 1981 when the event was first staged I've watched increasing numbers of people run the capital's streets, honoring loved ones, raising awareness. There are so many stories and inspirational personal battles playing out.[/p][p]London will be my 8th marathon. Every one of them has been special, but London will stand out. It feels like home - I lived and worked there for many years; I still visit regularly; my Dad grew up there.[/p][p]And it's Dad that makes London 2019 very special for me. In 2013 he suffered two strokes that took all of his left-side vision. Through his determination and the ever present support of others he has found a new normal. He honors his his life-long value of fitness by getting out and walking every day, over 1000 miles each year. I knew he competed in his youth for the South London Harriers, but I only recently discovered he ran 4.5 minute miles! The photo below is Dad competing in a 1959 cross country event.[/p][p]I ran my first marathon in 2015 in New York City, raising money for The Stroke Association to help continue their work in supporting survivors of stroke and their families. It's a privilege to to do this again back on my home turf.[/p][p]The other great thing about London is that my older brother will be there too, running his first marathon! London 2019 is going to be a real family affair for me, and I couldn't be happier![/p][p]-----------------------------------------------------[/p][p]Stroke strikes every 5 minutes in the UK.[/p][p]Could you save a life by recognising the signs of stroke?[/p][p]Learn the FAST test.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
