My story

[p]Sambo the elephant, famous for carrying tourists around Wat Phnom in Phnom Penh, Cambodia is ready to head back to the forest. [/p] [p]We here at ELIE have come to an agreement with her owner, Sin Sorn to take her on for at least ten years and to support her into the future. Recently Mr Sin Sorn has been very sick and so has decided to also retire himself but before he does he wants to return Sambo to the forest and so has decided to send her to the EVP so she can live in the shade, eat a natural diet and live with other elephants again! [/p] [p]In return we will provide him with an appropriate amount of compensation that will enable him to retire and care for his family.[/p] [p]We have now spent days hammering out the finer details of the deal and are all happy to announce that this is going to actually happen. [/p] [p]We estimate that it will cost us at least 10k to get sambo moved to the EVP and get her established and after that we will fund her care from visitor donations into the future. This is something that will be considerbly expensive but also a task that we are more than prepared to do as the EVP was built for such an elephant to live in. [/p] [p]The Alexander Abraham Foundation has very kindly offered to support us with half of the needed funds and have challenged us to find the rest. This is all very exciting stuff and will be a huge accomplishment for us once she is living happily at the EVP. Any donations made will be much appreciated, however large or small. [/p] [p]Live updates will be posted on our EVP FB page. [/p] [p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and all donations will be quickly processed and passed onto our sister organisation Globalteer who will then send them onto us.[/p] [p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p] [p]On behalf of ELIE, the EVP staff, Sin Sorn and Sambo the Elephant we really appreciate all of your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]

So happy for Sambo as so many of us had written letters to get her off the street. Can't wait to see the video of her first glimpse of another elephant in Mondulkiri.
