My story

[p]Emergency Medical Fund[/p][p]For Pyer Chhut – a valued EVP staff member[/p][p]We are in desperate need of your help.[/p][p]On Monday Night at 10pm I received a heart wrenching call. Our staff Sophea, Easy Rider’s Mahout, called saying his younger brother Chhut (also one of our elephant food delivery team) had fallen 30m from a tree while collecting honey. When we got to him, I realised quickly this was an extremely serious situation - he was unconscious and unmoving. We managed to evacuated him out of the forest and rushed him to hospital.[/p][p]After we roused the doctors, the hospital in Sen Monorom swung into action. Hours stood still as we waited for him to wake up. His wife arrived and more family. But still he did not wake up. In a remote mountain hospital, diagnostic equipment is rare and facilities are basic. By the early hours of the morning it was clear there was serious head injury and the decision was made to rush him to Phnom Penh to the Royal Callemette Hospital to new Neurological emergency department.[/p][p]He arrived Tuesday afternoon, situation unchanged, but in the right place.[/p][p]The tricky part we are now facing, after having already spent $550 on the ambulance and the first night in the Neuro ward, is the cost of this treatment. As his accident was outside work hours and activities, our insurance is not covering it.[/p][p]This is why we are now reaching out to you for help for this beautiful, promising young man get the care he desperately needs right now.[/p][p]One night in the Neuro ward costs $200, and this is a very serious injury. We are taking things day by day at the moment, but anticipate huge medical costs for this family and we want to help as much as we can. Some of you may remember Savouen, who was paralysed from a similar fall and thanks to donations and lots of support, is now back at work.[/p][p]We need your help – can you donate today to help Chhut and his family in this time of tragedy?[/p][p]Thank you so much for offering what you can spare to this emergency case.[/p][p]Thanks in advance and dont forget to add that gift aid![/p][p]EVP Team[/p]
