My story

[p]Thank for visiting my page and supporting me in this marathon effort to try and raise money for Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) and The National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS). [/p][p]Those of you who know me well, will know how difficult this is going to be for me. To prepare for this I’ve had to introduce some drastic lifestyle changes, from stopping smoking, reducing my alcohol intake ENORMOUSLY, and beginning a daily training program which I am taking surprisingly seriously. For someone who has never “ran” more than 5k (& I use the term “RAN” in its loosest form), this will be my hardest challenge yet, but I’m determined to succeed.[/p][p]I decided to apply for the ballot draw for the first time ever in 2018, just before my 25th birthday, some may say during my quarter life crisis phase. It was something I had always thought would be an amazing achievement for someone else but had not thought of taking part in myself until the application form was in front of me. Even while I was completing it, I never in a million years expected I would get picked. SO, you can imagine my surprise come October 2018 when I received a letter in the post saying I’d been successful and was due to take part in the London marathon 2019. After the initial shock had worn off and my family had stopped laughing at the idea, I began thinking of what and who meant something of great importance to me so that I wouldn’t waste this amazing opportunity to raise money for charity. Without a second thought I knew I had to run on behalf of my Aunty Mary. My Aunt has been through a lot over the last 10 years, developing several complications due to her spinal injury and has been in a wheelchair since 2012. For this reason, I wanted to support a charity that would have an impact in extensive research for new treatments for spinal injuries and support those individuals and families who have been effected. After our own research, we decided that SIA, for their brilliant partnership with the spinal cord injured community, creating quality and equality of life through campaigning, educating and supporting those effected and NASS for their dedication to transforming AS (Axial SpA) care in the UK by building awareness, improving care and empowering the community were the charities that I would run for.[/p][p]Thank you again for supporting me on this journey, any donation large or small will go a long way for these two charities and your support will be greatly appreciated. I hope to see as many of you as possible on the day at various points throughout the course. Get the prosecco ready at the finishing line, I’m going to need it.[/p]
