My story

[p]In the three weeks between March and April 2020, 16 women and children were killed through domestic violence. Please help and donate to Bromley and Croydon Women's Aid.[/p][p]Like many people I have been really concerned about the statistics about domestic violence that have been highlighted over the last few months during lockdown. The headline statistic is horrific and over the last 10 years, in the UK, a woman has been killed by a partner or ex- partner on average every three days. [/p][p]Please watch this video: [/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hwHMhrVnL3k?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]I have been shocked by the stories of these women, the horrific news stories and was thinking of how I could raise money to help these women and children where home is not a safe place. The idea sprang from conversation with a friend who was giving up alcohol for 26 days to raise money that for her charity. [/p][p]In April 2020 a report showed that Alcohol played a role in 55% of domestic violence cases. Like a lot of people I have had some of my best and worst nights drinking but as I've got older I have been less willing to feel out of control or wake up the worse for wear the next day. As I only drink once every two weeks or so, 26 days would have been too easy, but not drinking for 26 weeks until October is definitely difficult. During that time, there are graduations, birthdays, zoom chats with friends where a glass of wine or gin or tonic would just hit the spot and to give that up would definitely be tricky. However, I thought I would try to put a positive twist on the challenge so, I thought I would use the next 6 months to see if there is an non-alcoholic substitute that is just as good as that a glass of wine, a beer or a gin and tonic. I'm not convinced but in the spirit of adventure I am happy to give it a go. [/p][p]Just to add a bit more to the mix and make things really hard, Ive decided to give up eating processed sugar for that time as well. So no more digestive biscuits at 3pm to deal with the lapse in energy! [/p][p]Every penny that you donate will be going to Bromley and Croydon Women's Aid (BCWA) who help women, children and men escape domestic violence. Please check out their website www.bcwa.org.uk[/p][p] Please donate to support BCWA's work and be part of their mission to end domestic abuse.[/p][p]If you would like to join me in this challenge, please get in touch and we can share ideas, chat and support each other!
