[p]Hello there, Hello there![/p][p]For those of you kind souls whom might not know me, my name is Meg and I am running the London Marathon in 2018 for the incredible UK charity, Friends of the Elderly. [/p][p]As well as doing a whole load of fundraising shenanigans offline, I have set up this Virgin Money Giving page where you can sponsor me and send donations, as well as keep up with how close we are getting to our money target![/p][p]So, a wee bit about me! [/p][p]I am 22 years old and currently in my final year of study at Manchester Fashion Institute (no matter what they say, fashion and rain do mix!). And as any sensible final year student with stressful deadlines, two jobs, and a questionable addiction to Netflix does, I decided to also train and run for the London marathon too! [/p][p]Madness? Quite possibly. [/p][p]Worth it? Absolutely. [/p][p]And it is here I will tell you for why... [/p][p]Friends of the Elderly is a UK based charity that aspires to a society where all older people have the opportunity to live fulfilled lives, it is dedicated to providing individual care with dignity that meets the needs for every single person that they support. This is done through their care services, community engagement projects, financial grants and befriending service. They have a number of volunteering opportunities across their services, which I have been lucky enough to be involved with… more on that later.[/p][p]Friends for the Elderly strives to create a home-from-home feel through every single one of their services, delivering absolute professionalism with an undoubtable passion for those who use their homes and services.[/p][p]I have have been lucky enough to grow up volunteering for Friends of the Elderly since I was able to do so and watch my mum grow to manage two Friends of the Elderly day centres, where the extent to which they change lives is beyond evident. It's here you realise just how incredible they truly are and is why I so desperately want to raise awareness of the life-changing support they provide, by giving back just a little of what they give to others. [/p][p]Please help me as I set out to raise awareness and money for Friends of the Elderly, so it can continue to grow and do the amazing things it does for those in the community whom might otherwise be vulnerable, lonely, and without the care they need. With our help, the organisation can continue to grow and reach more and more of those in need of care and support.[/p][p]And if you can't spare a bob or two, then have no fear because this is more than just about money. This is about getting people involved with this fantastic charity. You can visit the Friends of the Elderly website here, and find out about your local centres and how you can become a volunteer or get involved.[/p][p]You can also follow me as I take on this challenge, via my marathon blog on instagram: @marathonmegfote - expect cheers, tears, and lots of spaghetti (I'll take any excuse to fill up on pasta! It's like #1 in the marathon hand book right?)[/p][p]And finally, and HUGE thank you to all of you supporting me as I embark on this wacky, wonderful, and important journey. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this[/p]
