My story

[p]New message for all my supporters![/p][p]Hello everyone! [/p][p][br][/p][p]I just wanted to start by saying a massive thank you to each and every one of you who have donated to the Marfans Trust. This money will really go a long way to helping the charity in reaching its goals in researching, and helping others who have been diagnosed with the condition. [/p][p][br][/p][p]The swim was a toughie! But I managed to pull through and swim a time of 1 hour 1 minute and 52 seconds which I was personally very happy to achieve. Knowing that I had all of your support, the support of my amazing girlfriend, my family and my friends all the way through kept me going and pushed me to the finish line. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Being able to achieve this with my sister, who herself overcame many hurdles to smash the course with a great time of 1 hour 30 mins was so amazing. We pushed each other through our training and we were there for one another before and after the race. I couldn’t be prouder of her, so well done sis, here’s to the next physical challenge 💪🏻[/p][p][br][/p][p]It was a massive personal challenge for me too, but it was one I was delighted to overcome to support the work towards Marfans. I also hope that it helps anyone else who is, or may become diagnosed, to know that it doesn’t hold you back from achieving your goals. To quote back to the futures Doc Brown “if you put your mind to it you can achieve anything!” and I truly believe that applies to all of us with Marfans. [/p][p][br][/p][p]So let’s celebrate now, and here’s to all those with Marfans! You are not alone and there is nothing that can stop us 💪🏻[/p][p][br][/p][p]If you would still like to donate to the cause then the page will be open for several more weeks, so keep spreading the word and let’s raise as much as possible! [/p][p][br][/p][p]Take care everyone,[/p][p]Freddie[/p][p][br][/p][p]P.S: My previous message prior to the swim will still be below if you fancy reading my backstory and why me and my sister were swimming for such an amazing cause :)[/p][p][br][/p][p]Hello to everyone reading this! My Name is Freddie, I’m a 25 year old who was diagnosed with Marfans from the age of 16. I was lucky to be diagnosed by a junior doctor who had recently seen the condition in his studies, and this came about after I had seemingly developed a pigeon chested rib cage after losing weight. [/p][p][br][/p][p]I was one of the lucky ones to be diagnosed with this condition, and to have myself monitored for the years to come. This has since saved my life, leading to open heart surgery in 2016 to replace a leaking Aorta, once described to me as a ticking time bomb by my consultant. Had it not been for the research and dedication of the those involved in Marfans, and also heart related issues then I might not have been so lucky. [/p][p][br][/p][p]This swim is my chance to give back to this cause, and hopefully to help any and all who may be diagnosed with this condition in the future. I was the fortunate (or unfortunate) one to be the only person in my family with this mutated gene, but on the upside, when the X-men come calling I know I’ll have earned my place! [/p][p][br][/p][p]I won’t be alone in swimming the serpentine this year. My sister Alex will be there right alongside me in taking on this challenge, and we both follow in our dads footsteps in taking the plunge! You can guarantee there will be plenty of sibling rivalry in getting the best time, but I’m sure she won’t be too far behind me ;)[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to read this little write up, this is the first event of its kind that I have ever done, and I, Alex, and the Marfans trust would really appreciate any donations of any kind. Any and all amounts will go a long way, and I can guarantee I’ll be swimming as hard and as fast as possible to earn your donations 🏊?♂?[/p][p][br][/p][p]Take care everyone, see you at the side of the Serpentine!! [/p]
