My story

[p]Start spreading the news[/p][p]I’m writing to say[/p][p] I want to be a part of it`[/p][p] New York, New York[/p][p] [/p][p] These marathon trainers[/p][p] They are longing to stray[/p][p] Right through the very heart of it[/p][p] New York, New York[/p][p] [/p][p] I want to run fast in the city[/p][p] That doesn't sleep[/p][p] And find I'm raising some cash [/p][p]For Autism chums[/p][p]Topping my peak[/p][p] [/p][p] My short little runs[/p][p] They are melting away[/p][p] I’m gonna make up extra miles[/p][p] In old New York[/p][p] [/p][p] If I can run 26 miles there[/p][p] I can run them anywhere[/p][p] It's up to you please donate[/p][p] when I run in New York[/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p]I’ve long had a dream of running another of the world’s great marathons for a cause that is dear to my heart and in November I aim to make that dream come true when I line up with 5 fantastic team mates to take part in the New York City Marathon and run “26 Miles For Autism”[/p][p]Haydn, Chris, Alex, Carlo and Luke have agreed to join me in this great adventure to raise awareness and as much money as possible for the National Autistic Society(www.autism.org.uk) to help them with their work. [/p][p]On a personal level I’ve been given a great insight into Autism through one of LEES clients, Pineapple Performing Arts School (PPAS) and seen first hand the way that these amazing people can stand up on stage and deliver fantastic song, dance and acting performances that would not be out of place in the West End (https://www.annakennedyonline.com/autisms-got-talent/) PPAS provides a safe place where these talented individuals not only get to perform regularly but also build confidence make new friends and feel 100% inclusive in an environment where they can be themselves without the challenges of bullying or being excluded whilst also enjoying the thrill of performing on stage with their fellow students.[/p][p]The effect on those around an autistic child or adult is enormous, and is a lifelong challenge that cannot be underestimated. Therefore the funds raised by NAS not only goes into research but also supporting those with Autism and their carers in their daily lives.[/p][p]For me and team “26 Miles For Autism” this is a short term challenge (albeit a little painful!) but for the 1 in every 100 people in the UK that have Autism and their carers it’s a lifelong challenge that will not go away. We therefore need your support to give NAS the resources they need to provide the very best information, support and pioneering services to people on the autism spectrum, their families and friends. [/p][p]“So if you want to be a part of it in old New York,” [/p][p]Come and join us, or if you’re not able to come, please support us by donating as little or as much as you can so that we can help make a real difference to the thousands of families that NAS supports each year.[/p][p] [/p]
