My story

[p]I seem to have lost the ability to write anything remotely within a word-count, so I’m going to try and keep the sponsorship spiel to the basics this year (and steal a bunch of the text from last year!) Besides which, many of you recognise this fundraiser page by now, and are ready to click on the [Donate] button - it's up there on the right in red. Go ahead, lovelies. Clickety Click.[/p][p]The Short Story (aka TL:DR)[/p][p]- Crisis helps and can help more. They believe Britain can solve homelessness and they need our time, energy and money to make that happen.[/p][p]- I'm volunteering some of my time to help Crisis and would love if you volunteered some of your time too, or some of your money.[/p][p]- I’ve put some ideas and sums for how much you may want to donate further down the page.[/p][p]You're lovely! Have a splendid December and a wonderful 2019![/p][p]G.xx[/p][p]---[/p][p]The Longer Story (aka George waffles on a bit, as usual)[/p][p]This will be my 11th Christmas Week volunteering with Crisis Christmas, and my 9th inviting you to sponsor me. As has become traditional, I've set this year's fundraising target to match my planned volunteering time (94 hours) at UK Minimum Wage (£7.83). This gives us a target this time of £735.[/p][p]By the end of this month, I'll have volunteered on 86 night shifts in 10 years, in dozens of roles alongside thousands of co-volunteers... and through all of that, I've never felt alone or unsupported for long. As an Assistant Shift Leader now, and part of that job is to try and make sure that all of our volunteers - old-hands and newbies - feel just as supported, as they donate some of their time and energy to help some of our society’s most vulnerable adults.[/p][p]This Year's Fundraising - £735 Target - Sponsor to match my 94 Hours Volunteering [/p][p]You've been part of those teams too - you've supported me in word and deed and donation, raising £14,897.46 in my name to help support Crisis' work during the Christmas project and throughout the year. Let's just take a moment for that....[/p][p]!!! YOU'VE ALREADY RAISED ALMOST FIFTEEN THOUSAND POUNDS FOR CRISIS !!![/p][p]I am generously and selflessly giving my friends and family the opportunity to get involved again, and to give away their hard-earned cash-money. I've calculated our fundraising target in line with matching my donated hours at Minimum Wage (government can rebrand it as a 'Living Wage' all they want, but it isn’t!) This year that's 94 hours at £7.83 which gives us a target of £735 and will fund spaces for more than 26 vulnerable adults this Christmas.[/p][p]If you feel you want to and are able, I’d be incredibly proud if you made a donation here at www.virginmoneygiving.com/georgelondon.[/p][p]And please, DON'T FORGET TO TICK THE GIFT AID BOX! Over £2,000 of what we've raised together in the past has come from people clicking on that box. You can do this and still remain anonymous to me if you want to, and the UK government will give an extra 25% to Crisis - effectively donating the income tax you've already paid to them and making your donation count for even more.[/p][p] [/p][p]How much should you sponsor?[/p][p]The short answer is, 'however much you feel comfortable with' (but remember to tick the GIFT AID box, and it's like tipping me 25%!)[/p][p]It helps sometimes to equate your donation with something specific, so below are some examples;[/p][p]£6.26 + Gift Aid ( = £7.83 )[/p][p] matches ONE HOUR of volunteering at the UK National Wage level[/p][p]£22.54 + Gift Aid ( = £28.18 )[/p][p] reserves ONE PLACE at Crisis at Christmas[/p][p]£73.60 + Gift Aid ( = £92.00 )[/p][p] matches volunteering for ONE NIGHTSHIFT at the UK National Wage level)[/p][p]£112.72 + Gift Aid ( = £140.90 )[/p][p] reserves TABLE FOR 5 PLACES at Crisis at Christmas[/p][p]£588.82 + Gift Aid ( = £736.02 )[/p][p] matches volunteering for all EIGHT NIGHTSHIFTS at the UK National Wage level)[/p][p]£793.36 + Gift Aid ( = £991.70 )[/p][p] matches volunteering for all EIGHT NIGHTSHIFTS at the London Living Wage level)[/p][p] [/p][p]Want to Volunteer?[/p][p]It's not too late if you want to find out more about volunteering yourself - click through to www.crisis.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer or ask me for more info. I guarantee that the experience will benefit both you and many others, which is a genuine win-win![/p][p]If you're trying to decide which centre and which shift to join, I can highly recommend Night-Shifts at the Outreach Rough Sleeper’s Centre in Paddington! ;-)[/p][p] [/p][p]Thank you for reading! [/p][p] [/p][p]Wishing love, light and laughter for you all through the rest of December and into the new year ahead, and thanks again from me and from my fellow volunteers and guests for reading this far. And if you didn't donate here today, how about being a bit extra-nice to someone today when you wouldn't normally. :-)[/p][p] [/p][p]George. xx [/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p]---[/p][p]Some Links (for more info)[/p][p]How much have you and I raised this year? -http://virginmoneygiving.com/georgelondon.[/p][p]Are you thinking of volunteering? - https://crisis.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer/.[/p][p]Volunteer for a Crisis Night Shift - https://crisis.org.uk/get-involved/christmas-volunteering-london/night-owls/night-owl/ (& https://facebook.com/video.php?v=10152512129582654)[/p][p]What Is Crisis Doing to End Homelessness? - https://crisis.org.uk/ending-homelessness/plan-to-end-homelessness/[/p][p] [/p][p]- http://crisis.org.uk/pages/homelessnessmonitor.html[/p][p]- https://crisis.org.uk/ending-homelessness/[/p][p]- https://crisis.org.uk/get-help/ [/p][p]- https://gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates[/p][p]- https://crisis.org.uk/get-involved/reserve-a-place-at-crisis-at-christmas/ [/p][p]- https://gov.uk/donating-to-charity/gift-aid[/p][p]- http://livingwage.org.uk/calculation[/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p]
