My story

[p]I have been fortunate enough to have been picked to run the London Marathon this coming April despite my lack of running experience! Whilst I struggle around the 26.2 miles I hope to raise money for a local charity, that I feel is close to home for me, Suffolk MIND. For several years I have struggled with poor mental health in particular depression and anxiety. Much like many young men my age I feel there is a stigma attached to talking about such a subject and this very real issue goes under the radar to friends and family until it reaches breaking point, which can take many forms. Unfortunately, this is a point that I have reached, hurting not only myself, but close friends and family. This is not acceptable and not a point anyone should reach! We as human beings need to support one another, whether it’s a simple text or having a chat over a pint. Suffolk MIND is there when all else fails, giving that support to anybody that needs it. Not only are they for people individually, they’re in schools educating the next generation hoping to prevent future breaking points and make young people understand that it is okay not to be okay. This is why I want to support this charity as they have supported so many people and I hope can continue to support. Please donate as much or as little as you can, I and everyone the charity helps will really appreciate it. Thank you and if you want to see me over the next 6 months bring you’re running shoes! [/p]

I hope that it went OK. I know how it hurts - I've run five marathons (London Marathon in 1981 & 2000, and helped to marshall in 1997 & 1998).
