My story

[p]Charity Golf Marathon for Monte San Martino Trust[/p][p]Update - We did it - not on the 1st July as originally intended but on the 8th as the clubhouse had been opened by then and we were able to have some much needed refreshment between rounds. We started at 5.00am in wet and miserable conditions but fortunately the weather cleared up after the 1st round and we only had a couple of showers to contend with. We finished our 4th round of the day about 7.00pm, with a flourish as I managed to birdie the 18th, our 72nd hole in front of a small but enthusiastic gallery. A big thank you to Dave Alder, vice captain and playing partner for his enthusiasm and support and to our supply of caddies throughout the day.[/p][p][br][/p][p]From all sources we have managed to raise over £4000, far exceeding my expectations. Thanks to everyone for giving so generously.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p][p]It is my honour to be Captain of Sudbury Golf Club in this our Centenary Year, and I’m raising funds for my chosen charity the Monte San Martino Trust.[/p][p]As you can imagine opportunities to raise money so far have been very limited so I’m asking you to dig deep to donate to my 72 hole golf challenge. On Wednesday 1st July, my vice-captain, Dave Alder and I are going to play 72 holes, and no, I’m not going to carry my own clubs![/p][p]you can give so much per hole, per round, per person, per strokes taken (that would be a good one) or just make a donation. The webpage gives some details about the charity, the Monte San Martino Trust, and there’s a link to the Trust website. Very briefly the Trust was set up by ex POWs (my father being one) who owed their lives to Italian families who hid them from German occupying forces in 1943/1944 (for 10 months in my father’s case). To honour the bravery and generosity of those families the Trust provides bursaries for young Italian students from the region to come to the UK to study English. This is my opportunity to make a contribution to fostering relations between nations and peoples at a time when many seem intent on driving us apart.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Offline donation: [/p][p][br][/p][p]02-Jul-2020[/p][p][br][/p][p]Sudbury GC Ladies section[/p][p]Good luck and best wishes from The Ladies section[/p][p][br][/p][p]£50.00[/p][p]plus £12.50 Gift Aid[/p][p]12-Jun-2020[/p][p][br][/p][p]Sue Gooderham[/p][p]Hope you keep up with David - I caddied for him 10 years ago and he nearly killed me! Good luck Sue[/p][p][br][/p][p]£30.00[/p][p]plus £7.50 Gift Aid[/p][p]12-Jun-2020[/p][p][br][/p][p]Peter Blott[/p][p]£50.00[/p][p]plus £12.50 Gift Aid[/p]
