Team story

[p]Thanks for visiting our HiB Three Peaks Challenge fundraising page.[/p] [p]In a moment of madness (and to co-incide with HiB's 25[sup]th[/sup] anniversary), 12 HiB employees have decided to take on the challenge of climbing the UK's three tallest peaks within twenty four hours. [/p] [p]The Three Peaks Challenge is not for the fainthearted.   Ben Nevis is the highest peak in the British Isles at 4,409ft, the route up follows a 8.5 mile path with switchbacks.  The second peak on the three peaks challenge is Scafell Pike in Cumbria which stands at 3,209ft, and the third and final peak is Snowdon in Wales which stands at 3,560ft. [/p] [p]Covering just over 26 miles and over 11,000 feet of mountain terrain in 24 hours with very little sleep and a limited supply of food and drink, it's a physical and mentally challenging task which is not to be underestimated.  But by implementing a training programme and with some planned team bonding we are determined to make it.  [/p][p]We will set off on Friday 4[sup]th[/sup] September, making our way to Fort William to start the challenge early Saturday morning with a trek to the summit of Ben Nevis. [/p] [p]We are embarking on this challenge with the sole aim of raising money for HiB’s 2015 Charities, Starlight and Mind.[/p] [p]Starlight (www.starlight.org.uk)[/p] [p]This charity brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by wish granting and also by providing fun, entertainment, laughter and distraction for children in every children’s hospital ward and hospice throughout the United Kingdom. All Starlight’s activities are aimed at distracting children from the pain, fear and isolation they can often feel as a result of their illnesses.  Together with healthcare professionals, they have developed a programme of year-round entertainment and distraction which helps over 500,000 children every year who are hospitalised for whatever reason.   Starlight is entirely dependent on the generosity of people and companies like us.  They do not receive funding from the government or the National Lottery.[/p] [p]Mind (www.mind.org.uk)[/p] [p]Every year, one in four people experience a mental health problem and this charity provides advice and support to empower them.  Mind believe that no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone.  They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Mind is a charity that relies on donations to continue supporting people with mental health problems.  The support from companies like us mean they can reach more people, answer more calls and carry on speaking out for everyone affected by mental health problems.[/p][p]Please help by sponsoring us for this event so we can reach our target to help these wonderful charities.[/p]
