Team story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting our page.  The Hutchison Family has decided to sign ourselves up for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival this year. [/p][p]I am attempting to run the 4 main races which make up the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on the 27th & 28th May.  This consists of a 10k followed by a 5k on Saturday 27th and a half marathon followed immediately by a marathon on Sunday 28th.  Cheryl has signed-up for the half marathon even though after completing one 2 years ago swore never again, Eilidh is running the 2k and Aidan the 1.5k.[/p][p]The reason we have decided to challenge ourselves is not only to raise money for our 2 selected charities but to raise awareness of the illnesses they support.  The charities are Arthrisits Research UK and The Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust.  [/p][p]Both my dad and Cheryl's mum suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and we have seen the considerable impact this has had on their quality of life over the last few years. I never thought of either of them as 'old' until they started to suffer from this condition and it seemed to age them both dramatically.  Luckily for my dad they identified the right medication to limit the impact on his day to day life however for Trish this is not the case.  In addition to the pain and suffering Trish has gone through due to her arthritis she was also diagnosed with the condition Pulmonary Fibrosis.  This is a condition we had not heard of prior to Trish being diagnosed and I am pretty sure the majority of you reading this will not have heard of it either. This condition has affected Trish in a number of ways limiting the treatment options for her arthritis which means she lives daily in constant pain.  She is also now on oxygen 24 hours a day.[/p][p]Pulmonary Fibrosis is the term used to describe the formation of scar tissue within the lungs.  Over time the scar tissue builds up making it harder for oxygen to pass from the lungs to the body where it is needed which results in feeling short of breath when perfroming even light activities, including washing and dressing, eating and talking.  There is no cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis and on average an individual with the condition has a life expectancy of 3-4 years.[/p][p]We have set an ambitious target of £1,500 but we have faith that our family and friends will dig deep to help us achieve our goal.  [/p]
