My story

[p]2020 Update (19th June 2020)[/p][p]As the most of the events that I planned to run in this year have now been cancelled, I should really close this page but have left it open in case anyone reading wishes to make a donation to Guide Dogs, who like all charities are feeling the effects of the current situation. [/p][p]Hopefully some of these events will be possible next year, and I will be able to run in them. I will open a new page if and when the situation changes and future mass running events are confirmed.[/p][p]In the meantime thanks to you all for your support over the years.[/p][p]Iain[/p][p]2020 Update (1st January 2019)[/p][p]I won't be running the VMLM this year, but have entries in the following events if and when they happen:[/p][p]2020 London Landmarks Half Marathon (Postponed from 29th March 2020)[/p][p]2020 Edinburgh Marathon (Postponed from 24th May 2020)[/p][p]2020 Great North Run (Currently on 13th September 2020)[/p][p]2020 Loch Ness Marathon (Currently on 5th October 2020)[/p][p]As usual I will be wearing a Guide Dogs T Shirt and any donations will be greatly appreciated in order that the charity can continue to support blind people in the current crisis.[/p][p]Thank You[/p][p]Iain[/p][p]________________________________________________________________________________________________________[/p][p]Post Race Update 3 28-May-2019[/p][p]I completed Edinburgh Marathon in 3:57:35 on Sunday which is within my GFA Guide Time, so may get a GFA Place in London 2020. Would have been faster but I 'hit the wall' at 23 miles and struggled to mile 24, but managed to get things back together for miles 25 to 26.2, and get the sub four hours I wanted.[/p][p]Post Race Update 2 23-May-2019[/p][p]Just sent the big cheque (£900) for the donations via sponsorship forms etc. to Guide Dogs. Thank you all for your support (again) this year, here's hoping for a place next year [/p][p]Thanks again Iain[/p][p]Post Race Update 1 29-April-2019[/p][p]My chip time was 4:03:43, which was faster than expected (about 30/12 minutes faster than 2017/2018, but not quite fast enough to be in the running for a GFA place next year. Never mind a great day and perfect weather - Thanks to you all.[/p][p]VMLM 2018[/p][p]Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, first I will tell you a little about myself and my charity. After starting to running to 'lose some weight' in January 2003, things progressed until April 2004 when I found myself running the London Marathon. I ran that first marathon for myself. Since then in an effort 'to put something back' I have run several marathons for Guide Dogs, and am doing so once again in 2019.[/p][p]Here is some information about Guide Dogs[/p][p]The lifetime cost of a guide dog is around £55,000.[/p][p]There are around 5,000 guide dog owners in the UK.[/p][p]The charity is currently responsible for around 8,000 dogs[/p][p](You can find out more at www.guidedogs.org.uk)[/p][p]Any sponsorship, no matter how little (or how much) would be greatly appreciated in order that I might help fund the work of what I am sure you will agree is a very worthwhile charity. [/p][p]In addition to thanking all at 'The Guide Dogs Events Team' for the support & encouragement which I have received from them all over the last 15 years, I would also like to thank my partner (transport manager, photographer & chief supporter) Ann for the support that she has given me with my running over the last 17 years, and with my life for a lot longer.[/p][p][br][/p]
