My story

[p]Samaritans... “Whatever you're going through, a Samaritan will face it with you. We're here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”[/p][p][br][/p][p]To keep a branch open it takes £25,000! This isn’t given to the branch! It’s earned! Through fundraising & hoping for the support of others!! [/p][p][br][/p][p]“We're working together to make sure fewer people die by suicide.”[/p][p][br][/p][p]So how often do Samaritans receive a call? [/p][p]“Every six seconds, we respond to a call for help. No judgement. No pressure. We're here for anyone who needs someone”[/p][p]& It costs £5 to answer one of those calls! [/p][p][br][/p][p]What if that call was someone you knew? Someone you loved? Someone who didn’t feel that they had anyone to talk to? [/p][p][br][/p][p]In 2020/2021 I’ll be doing my part to support The Samaritans!! I’ll be taking on the challenge of 12 Half Marathons in 16 Months once COVID & Lockdown allows it [/p][p]To put it into some form of context the last time I ran 13miles was 2013!! & since then I haven’t done a real long distance run, or any form of training that would assist with that! I have given myself till the end of the year to train for the first of the Half Marathons! [/p][p][br][/p][p]If I can raise 10% of what it takes to run a branch for a year! Then I’ll be happy! However, we don’t want to stop at 10%! Every month these centres take thousands of calls! And without support they would cease to exist!! [/p][p][br][/p][p]“Each day around 16 people take their life in the UK and Ireland. In the next hour, we'll receive 600 calls for help.” [/p][p][br][/p][p]“We helped 590,000 people in 2017 with our outreach work in communities.”[/p][p][br][/p][p]If that’s not enough, if you still don’t feel like you want to donate, or help a great cause, I’ve put some more reasons why the Samaritans need our support![/p][p][br][/p][p]6,213 people[/p][p]died by suicide across the UK and Ireland in 2017.[/p][p][br][/p][p]5 million calls for help[/p][p]are received by Samaritans a year.[/p][p][br][/p][p]10-15% increase[/p][p]in running costs is what we need to answer every call.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Every 6 seconds[/p][p]a Samaritans volunteer answers a call for help.[/p][p][br][/p][p]20,000[/p][p]volunteers help us deliver our lifesaving service.[/p][p][br][/p][p]“For every £1 donated to Samaritans and its branches in the UK and Ireland... 82p goes on our services and just 18p is invested in raising the next £1.”[/p][p][br][/p][p]So please, support me, and support your local Samaritans branch! Let’s help keep these branches open! & allow them to do their great work!![/p][p][br][/p]
