[p]I work for Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent, so know how CO-VID-19 has affected older people and increased the charities work load whilst income has gone down and expenditure gone up. The impact on our clients has been immense and social isolation a huge risk. This is far from over for the older people we work with and won't be for some time. [/p][p]I have been cycling for some time and generally would not consider a 19 mile sponsored cycle ride to be worth bothering with and would go for at least the 46 mile ride, however just as I was going to restart cycling after having a winter break, I was told to strictly socially isolate for 3 months due to increased risks of becoming seriously ill from the virus. As a result, I have not cycled for about 9 months. I have just restarted, however 2 weeks is not long enough to prepare for a long cycle ride and I need to be realistic. Hence 19 miles it is. [/p][p]I completed the ride on Sat 15th August at 17pm. I decided to go down the Paddington branch of the Grand Union Canal and into central London. So, over the North Circular Road to Little Venice (Where I picked up some lovely home made Jam), into Paddington Station, then along the Regents Canal to St Johns Wood and Regents Park, then back down the Regents Canal, cutting through the middle of London Zoo. [/p][p]Thank you all for sponsoring me. So far I have raised £100, plus gift aid, which will be put to good use. You have also helped me improve my health and wellbeing by getting me back on my bike and remembering the joys of cycling to central London whilst barely touching any roads! It was a challenge, especially the way home, however I had a great day and am very glad to have participated [/p][p]Jackie[/p]
