My story

[p]I am taking part in a triathlon in September to help raise funds for my friends son Harry who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  The triathlon is broken down into a 1.5km open water swim then a 40km cycle and finishes off with a 10km run.  I know that it will be hard and that i will suffer whilst doing it however this is nothing compared to what my friends and others like them have to go through every day.[/p][p]Two UK families are told every week that their son has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). They'll be told the cold clinical facts: that their son’s muscles are dying and have been since birth; that he'll be in wheelchair at 12, completely paralysed by his teens, and life expectancy is his 20s. Treatment options are limited. This is a death sentence. [/p][p]For the first time in the history of Duchenne there is hope - and more than that - belief - that treatments are on the horizon. Treatments that we have helped develop and push towards clinical trials, to ultimately become approved medicines for our boys.[/p] [p]Duchenne UK are aiming to raise £2million in 2017 to help continue our breakthrough clinical trials.[/p] [p]So that’s why I am trying to help them in their mission to end Duchenne – to use my muscles to help the boys whose muscles are weakening. [/p][p]For more information about Harry please see: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/someonespeical/harry.halpin [/p]
