My story

[p]The Shepherd Family have chosen to support the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust for a second year. Visitors to the musical lights display last year recognised the challenges that young people face with depression and mental wellbeing and were very supportive of the charity and its aims. [/p][p]CWMT’s vision is of a world where people understand and talk openly about depression, where young people know how to maintain wellbeing, and where the most appropriate treatment is available to everyone who needs it. [/p][p]The Trust was set up in 1997 in memory of Charlie Waller, a young man who took his own life whilst suffering from depression. Shortly after his death, his family founded the Trust in order to educate young people on the importance of staying mentally well and how to do so.[/p][p]The Trust aims to:[/p][p]• Equip young people to look after their mental well being[/p][p]• Help people to recognise the signs of depression in themselves and others so they know when to seek help[/p][p]• Ensure expert and evidence-based help is available when people need it [/p][p]They do this by:[/p][p]• Delivering talks & training to young people and those who work with them about how to stay mentally well[/p][p]• Providing training for primary health care and other professionals in identifying and supporting those with depression[/p][p]• Providing self-help resources and training for universities and student-led organisations to promote resilience and mental wellbeing[/p][p]• Supporting research and teaching in evidence-based therapies at the Charlie Waller Institute at the University of Reading[/p][p]The money raised last year was used to provide educational opportunities for the public, teachers, universities’ in recognising signs of ill health. We hope with the support of our visitors to raise a similar amount this year.[/p][p]The lights will be on from December 1st to January 5th from 16.00 to 23.00.[/p][p]Musical display from 17.00 to 21.00.[/p][p]More information can be found on: [/p][p]www.facebook.com/shepherdfamilychristmaslights[/p][p]https://www.cwmt.org.uk/[/p]
