My story

[p]Well it's that time of year...time is ticking away to the London marathon 2013 and I have been planning to run around the 26.2 mile course since the end of last year.[/p][p]Sadly though, in the few weeks building up to the big day I sustained an injury in my leg that I thought would ease with rest but unfortunately this is not the case and as a result I have had to withdraw from The VLM 2013. [/p][p]I have MTSS - medial tibial stress syndrome and it is also highly likely that the bone is slightly fractured which would explain the pain and the severe discomfort. I am beyond disappointed and can truly say that I feel empty-hearted now that I can no longer participate but by taking part I could cause serious long-term damage. [/p][p]As a runner, I love this event and deep down even enjoy the training, blisters and exhausting build-up!!!! I also am passionate about the opportunity to help charity and this year was no exception.[/p][p]I was - and am still - raising funds and awareness for The Childrens' Trust. A wondeful charity that helps children all over the UK. It provides care, education, rehabilitation and therapy for children with  multiple disabilites, acquired brain injury and complex health needs. You can see more about The Trust here:[/p][p]http://www.thechildrenstrust.org.uk[/p][p]I went to visit the trust in Tadworth and saw firsthand how much they need funds to continue the incredible work. I met children with such severe brain damage that they can't return home because they need the constant care and attention that is only available to them at The Trust. Also children who have needed similar care from the minute they were born. It broke my heart to see children in such circumstances yet at the same time-seeing the facilities and meeting the wonderful staff who help them, made me realise that they are very special children who are lucky to be cared for at such a special place. [/p][p]So come on, every penny counts no matter how big or small the donation. If everyone who clicked on this page donated £1, the money would soon mount up and I for one would be truly grateful.[/p][p]Although I haven't made it to the race itself, I did do all the hard work in advance- which I think is all the more frustrating!! I even did several 20 mile runs and am mentally (and almost physically) ready to go...the only thing stopping me is my very annoying and inconvenient injury!! There are still 129 other people running on behalf of The Children's Trust so please make their blood, sweat, tears, injuries, aches, pains and bulging blisters worth it!! [/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to read this and good luck to all runners taking part! I'll see you on the start-line next year!![/p][p]Love Jenni xxx[/p][p]@jennifalconer [/p]
