My story

[p]As some of you may know, I had the most rewarding experience in 2015 when I set off to work in Nepal after the devastating earthquake. The news had not prepared me for what I had seen; 6 months later, families were still living in tents and makeshift accommodation in piles of rubble. Nepal is one of the most beautiful countries on earth but it is one of the poorest countries in the world. 85% of the population live in remote rural villages, 60% have no electricity, 38% have no toilet and 45% are illiterate. The earthquake has made life even more difficult for these simply amazing people. [/p][p]What touched me the most, was the fact that many of these families had pretty much lost everything (including family members) but were the most warm and welcoming people I have ever met. It is true about what they say about those who have very little.[/p][p]I am absolutely honoured that I have a chance to run for this country that is so close to my heart. The fantastic charity I am running for, ‘Kids at School in Nepal’ (KASIN) was founded in 2005 as a small charity and is making a big difference to the lives of hundreds of Nepali children. What I really love about this charity is the fact that all of its funds go directly into projects, improving school facilities, providing teacher training and learning materials. Most teachers in remote schools have no formal training. KASIN works directly with schools, teachers and volunteers.[/p][p]The charity listens to local needs and then supports them. Trustees visit annually at their own expense to ensure funding has been allocated in line with their constitution ‘To advance the education of children in Nepal’[/p][p]Any donations no matter how big or small would be absolutely incredible, as not only would it give me a MASSIVE boost, but it would give the children in Nepal something that everyone should be entitled to – an education.[/p][p]Many thanks. Jen[/p]
