My story

[p]I'm walking Land's End to John o'Groats this Autumn - join me on my challenge![/p][p]Why am I doing it?[/p][p]Today, an estimated 40 million people are trapped in slavery, more than ever before. My daughter, Zoe, has recently started working for the most incredible organisation, International Justice Mission (IJM). My wife Fiona and I have since grown a passion to see an end to modern-slavery in our lifetime...so we better get a move on as I'm 60 this year...[/p][p]IJM are are the largest anti-slavery organisation in the world. A global team of undercover investigators, social workers and lawyers working to protect the world's poorest by partnering with local authorities to...[/p][p] 1) Rescue victims from slavery and other forms of violence [/p][p] 2) Walk with survivors on their journey to recovery[/p][p] 3) Prosecute criminals for their crime[/p][p] 4) Strengthen justice systems to ensure laws against slavery are enforced[/p][p]So far they have rescued over 50,000 people, their largest rescue operation freeing 564, but many are still waiting. Fiona and I want to be part of sending more rescue so have set a target to fundraise £15,000 - approximately enough to fund 3 rescue operations! (*EDIT - amazingly, we have now reached this and are going for £20,000 - 4 rescues!!)[/p][p]How can you get involved?[/p][p]WALK - Fiona and I will be on the road sleeping in our borrowed camper van from 21st September until 16th November (approximately). We would love you to join us, for an hour, a day, a week. Have a look at the route below and see where / when would best suit. [/p][p]GIVE - Join us in being part of funding 3 operations by sponsoring us on this challenge. You can do this in 2 ways:[/p][p] 1) £15 per mile - I will be walking approximately 20 miles a day, so sponsor a mile for £15, half a day for £150, a day for £300, or a week for £2,100. Comment with your donation and we will notify you with which miles you are sponsoring to happen closer to the time![/p][p] 2) Any amount would be hugely appreciated, so feel free to donate as you wish! [/p][p]Pay to walk with me...or pay not to walk with me...[/p][p]JOIN THE TEAM - If you would like to start your own fundraising page for walking the miles you have sponsored John for - do link it to the Walking with John for Freedom campaign page![/p][p]SHARE - We want to spread awareness of modern-slavery, please share my campaign with anyone you can and start a conversation about how you can join the fight to end slavery in our lifetime.[/p][p]Why are we passionate about freedom and justice?[/p][p]The Bible is one big story of freedom. From the very beginning God has been rescuing people out of dark situations and into light and freedom. As Christians, we want to be part of this story.[/p][p]On behalf of all who will be free because of your support - THANK YOU.
