My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page. I attempted my first (and only) marathon in 2009 and then promptly retired from running. But having walked much of the second half, my 5 hour finish time has annoyed me ever since. April 2019 will mark 10 years (ample time to forget any pain), so to 'celebrate' the anniversary I've decided to do it again; but this time I'm upping the ante and will be attempting 2 marathons in 2 weeks. I start with Brighton on 14 April and then London on 28 April. I know this may sound a bit extreme but how many people ask for charity money? Running a marathon is hugely difficult, but asking for charity donations isn’t easy so I therefore wanted a challenge worthy of your donation.[/p][p]I am running in aid of Afasic. This probably isn’t a charity you’re aware of, but it does fantastic work with children's speech. It focuses on so many key things; from children who are late to speaking, to those children having difficulties understanding speech. There is a lot of help and research needed in this area, and it is something those of you who can speak easily may not realise.[/p][p]I suffered from severe speech difficulties as a child and although it’s not at the same degree today, it’s something I still have to contend with. There wasn't the help or support needed when I was growing up. My brother has a stammer too, and one of his amazing daughters also has speech difficulties. So much work needs to happen in understanding the reason behind family history and speech, and this charity helps with that. This is very personal to me, and much more research, help and understanding is required.[/p][p]So if you can spare any money please donate. I’ve never run so much in my life.[/p][p]___________________________________________________________________________________[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
