My story

[p]I have now ridden the North Coast 500, or NC500 as it is known, a 516 mile route that starts and finishes in Inverness and wends its way around the far west and far north of Scotland. I was riding on my own on the principle of He travels fastest who travels alone. but I had some welcome support in what became a five person endeavour (four of us in Scotland and Jill, as Control, back in London). We did the ride, 5th - 11th October and rode in support of PTSD Resolution. For safety reasons we avoided the A9 which extended the route to 538 miles.[/p][p]PTSD is a dreadful affliction that can affect those who have witnessed or been involved in, traumatic events. Too many of our veterans or those still serving suffer from it. PTSD Resolution treats those afflicted at no cost to their patients, it receives no Government or NGO funding and has no offices or assets. All funds raised are used to support the therapy and outreach programme. [/p][p]PTSD Resolution is a remarkable organisation that deserves our support.[/p][p]Preparation included:[/p][p]Tuesday 17th March. Two messages: First, a huge 'thank you' to all who have contributed so far. The Team at PTSD Resolution are really grateful. With three large promised contributions I can see us exceeding £10,000 in funds raised by the time we have finished. And Second, although I will always write to those who have so generously contributed, I just don't have everyone's email address, so forgive me if you haven't had a message of thanks. [/p][p]Sunday 5th April. In lock-down but training on a turbo-trainer every day, as pictured. Six months to go before the start ! Some great donations have come in recently - now just on £6,000. Thank you everyone.[/p][p]Saturday 2nd May. An astonishing Grant of £1,000 from the Veterans' Foundation was awarded this week, taking us well along the road to our target. The message is clear - do the Veterans' Foundation Lottery ![/p][p]Tuesday 8th July. Last year I drove down the A99 and A9 from John O'Groats to Inverness and was horrified by how fast and dangerous it appeared. I concluded that it was not where I wanted to be on a flimsy bike late in the day in October, so I've decided to change my route by riding clockwise to John O'Groats, but then doubling back along the north coast before turning south down much quieter roads. They are also longer roads, so my route may grow from the advertised 516 miles to 542 ![/p][p]Tuesday 1st September. In five weeks time, we'll be on the road, cycling somewhere up the West Coast. Preparations are going well and fund-raising is nibbling ahead. Training continues......[/p][p]Monday 28th September. Our Plan is still holding. Our Team of Four (three very kind supporters who have declared a wish to see the remote NW of Scotland while helping me ride), are on course to RV in Inverness on Sunday afternoon, having arrived there by various means.[/p][p]Covid-19. Our little Team has been observing semi-isolation in the run up to this event. We are all travelling separately, and will do so on the roads of Scotland, and are mostly staying at separate locations when there. As a Team we are observing all local laws and rules.[/p][p]And then....[/p][p]Job Done ! On Sunday 11th October our little Team rolled back into Inverness having completed the North Coast 500, covering 538 miles of mountain, moorland and countryside. We were well supported throughout. [/p][p][br][/p]
