My story

[p]Hi I'm Josh 👋🏻[/p][p]I am completing 3 challenges over 3 months to raise money for 3 charites. I'll be sharing the journey on Instagram (@jr_extended_triathlon).[/p][p]The challenges are:[/p][p]August - 100km running (avg. 3.3km a day)[/p][p]September - 10,000m swimming (avg. 17 lengths a day)[/p][p]October - 300km cycling (avg. 9.7km a day)[/p][p]I will be sporting my moustache for all 3 months of this challenge and an extra month at the end to include the traditional Movember slot. If you'd like to take part in a leg of the challenge it'd be great to have guest fundraisers, let me know![/p][p][br][/p][p]Please read the below to explain why I've picked these 3 charites.[/p][p]Why Movember?[/p][p]In March 2019 my dad became part of the 1.4 million men diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. They managed to catch it early, luckily. After one successful operation and completing his radiotherapy he's now cancer free and his outlook looks positive. However, I know not everyone's story is the same so supporting a cause like Movember is important to me this and every year. Movember is working to halve the number of deaths from prostate cancer by 2030 and that's a cause I can get behind.[/p][p]Why Pancreatic Cancer and Nottingham University Adult Intensive Care Trust Fund?[/p][p]In September 2020 Hannah's dad, Glenn, found out he had pancreatic cancer. This is the 10th most common cancer but accounts for the 5th most deaths and has the lowest survival rates of all the cancers. Catching it early makes such a huge difference but currently only 1 in 5 people get diagnosed at stage one and stage two. Unfortunately for Glenn it wasn't caught early and in November 2020, after an operation to try and remove the cancer, he passed away. The Adults Intensive Care unit at the QMC were compassionate throughout and allowed the family to experience the final moments before he passed. This story ended in the worst possible way, but hopefully through continued research less families will feel the pain Glenn's family felt. [/p]
